Game 133, con't...
Top of the 7th: Twins 2, White Sox 0
Jason Kubel delivers in the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded and two outs, going the other way for his second hit of the night off Mark Buehrle. Brian Duensing is cruising, in spite of a blown call by the umpires in the top of the sixth.

The oddest breed of typo
It’s always strange when I type a word that just sounds like the word I meant to type. I say the words in my head as I write them, but it’s weird to think that it would translate to my hands.

Look guys if I was at the Metrodome
I would be in the home run porch with a freaking broom and I would be waving it like crazy right now.
Now, if someone came up to me and was like, “Excuse me sir, could you please hold off until the end of the game. I have OCD” who do you think my fellow drunken Twins fans in our section would support?
A. Me, in a #36 Jersey, with a broom.
B. You, with the Joe Nathan face twitch, asking me to tone it down.
The correct answer is A.
"I don't care about feelings." - Lou Piniella
Hey!
How did the OCD reference fit in?
by montanatwinsfan on Sep 2, 2009 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions
From the DSM-IV
Compulsions as defined by (1) and (2):
(1) repetitive behaviors (e.g., hand washing, ordering, checking) or mental acts (e.g., praying, counting, repeating words silently) that the person feels driven to perform in response to an obsession, or according to rules that must be applied rigidly
(2) the behaviors or mental acts are aimed at preventing or reducing distress or preventing some dreaded event or situation; however, these behaviors or mental acts either are not connected in a realistic way with what they are designed to neutralize or prevent or are clearly excessive
"I don't care about feelings." - Lou Piniella

No,
that was a TOUGH hop, and two it hit him in the chest (would be glove) as the slide was coming across he couldn’t have gotten the glove down fast enough.
by montanatwinsfan on Sep 2, 2009 3:32 PM EDT up reply actions
throw took a tricky hop
Redmond even if he caught it would not have gotten the tag down in time…no catcher in baseball would have gotten the tag down there.
"Don't take life for granted, because tomorrow isn't promised to any of us." - Kirby Puckett
I have to agree with you on that one,
It was a good throw but no human could have gotten the arm down from that hop even with a clean catch in time to get the runner.
by montanatwinsfan on Sep 2, 2009 3:38 PM EDT up reply actions
That's because he had his glove facing wrong
imagine if he had it facing normal like he’s recieving a pitch. Then he catches it and is going down; not scooping up and then having to turn it back around.
Catching 101
I'll watch the replay later out of respect to you,
but my memory tells me the ball damn near hit his collarbone. Glove right, or no f’n glove at all he wasn’t getting his arm down to get the tag on a guy who is already well into his slide…
by montanatwinsfan on Sep 2, 2009 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions
ball hit him in the chest protector
throw was good from span, one hopper like he’s supposed to. hit the dirt instead of the turf. He has to have his glove up and swipe down.
He had it down, move up for the catch, and then down again for a tag which is wrong technique when the ball bounces that far in front of him.
I'll watch it later but that ball was a tough high hop.
He had his glove down for a low hop which is what it should have done on a “normal” high velocity with a low trajectory. That ball took a high hop.
I think you are being too critical.
by montanatwinsfan on Sep 2, 2009 3:49 PM EDT up reply actions
and like you said, it hit him up near the collarbone
it’s almost physically impossible to catch a ball that high with your glove down. He needed to have it up. He catches it, runner’s out because plate was blocked good.
I call bull
no catcher does if he had his glove waiting like redmond did. If he would have had his glove up like he should have with the ball almost hitting the turf, it would have been an out.
/end
no not even then
glove would have had to come down still and Wise was there…no play.

or maybe it was when Jesse wrote BRING OUT THE BROOMS
in the game preview. Seriously, dude, don’t hate on me for loving the Twins.

New Idea
we don’t bring out the brooms until the last out is recorded

I think Nathan gets the loss.
Hard to get a loss when you don’t give up any runs
its
cause he doesn’t know how to win. a true winner would have got the W
a true winner would have gotten the W
when he gives up 0 runs and his offense doesnt give him any support till he is out of the game..that is interesting logic!

He better be back
before we start the next trip, we’re gonna need it, especially in Toronto

sometimes you need to use a pinch loon poster
I tuned in just in time to listen to Nathan explode on the way to work :(

only in the AL
In the NL they just make pitchers post loons, no designated loon posters there.
I think we should make whoever jinxes a game post loons the next time I’m not there, to make up for the jinx

It was me
tell me what you guys are talking about and I’ll do it. Been out of the Twins loop for a little bit so I’m not up on the latest science.
my floor is looking pretty dirty... BETTER GET OUT THE BROOM!!!
the last few games I've been posting pictures of loons to the game threads
There’s the Rally Loon for when the Twins need a rally and the Stop Sucking Loon for games like today. So far they’ve worked like a charm every time they’ve been used.
