Slow Starter
There’s been a lot of talk recently of Morneau’s late season fades (even when he doesn’t have a back), but the same can be said of Cuddyer’s slow starts. Its been an issue with him for much of his career and was probably one of the reasons why he was slow to make the AAA→MLB transition. He’d stink himself into a reserve/platoon role each April.
When and HOW, did Morneau play without a back?
Without a spine maybe…shifty Canadian!

P.S. Delmon Young starts out slow and finishes strong as well.
ergo Young = Cuddyer.

:-)
Yeah… his hot month is only .294/.315/.392 which is “OK” by itself but a bit weak for making up for anything.
I remember RonDL had a hot second half that one year. So, the following year during his slow start you never knew if he was “done” or if it was his slow start. Turned out that time that he was done.
+1
Of the two, I’d rather have a strong finishing kick than a strong start.

I guess I set that one up didn't I...
I didn’t mean it as a dig on Morneau. Of course, nobody wants the “Mr. May” label. :-) Hard for me to understand the dissatisfaction with Morneau when I sat through years of Stahoviak and Mientkiewicz.
Anyhow, these seasonal variations usually balance out team-wise. You don’t want too many slow-starter/strong-finisher types on the same team or the team may find itself 7 GB in early September needing to streak its way to a perfect finish in order to earn a playoff berth. :-)
