Wow. This is an awesome post by PHAT1111. I am going to have to agree with me and say everything in this list is spot on!

Funny

Some points on the first team:

  • I think King Felix is overrated. Every year, a host of publications predicts a Cy Young type year from him. Every year he disappoints. Maybe this is the year? I doubt it. My pick would be between Lincecum and Greinke. Probably Lincecum.
  • I like Joe Nathan, but he started to show his age last year and I expect further incremental decline in the years ahead. I’d have to give this to the Ageless Wonder: Super Mario. He’s the closest thing to Mr. Automatic in the game.
  • No arguments on your infield.
  • Interesting outfield. There are a lot of great outfielders in the MLB. Those three would not be my first choices. But I’d have to do some research into the numbers to determine what three were tops for me. Ichiro would definitely be in there in RF. Off the top of my head, I’d probably take Holiday in LF and Hunter in CF. I’m not entirely happy with Hunter’s defense. So that’s a tough pick.
  • I also think Ortiz is past his prime and on the decline. Kubel had a better year than Ortiz last year and his career is on the upswing.

King Felix

Can you explain to me how going 19-5 with a 2.49 ERA and 217 K in 238 innings is a disappointment? Especially when you are only 23 years old. He finished 2nd in the Cy Young and if Grienke didn’t have the unbelievable start he would have won. Trust me Felix is not overrated.

His first half was mediocre

Though he dominated in his second half, Washburn had better numbers than Hernandez in the first half. And nobody would say Washburn is an ace. He doesn’t even have a job yet.

If Hernandez ever had a full season like his second half, then, yeah, he’d be the best pitcher in the league. Otherwise, he’s merely the fourth or fifth best pitcher in the league.

Washburn had some luck as well

because he’s certainly not a 2.7 ERA pitcher, and his peripherals indicated he was due to regress at some point.

I don’t agree that Felix should be considered the best starter in baseball (yet), but I don’t see what’s so ludicrous about putting him amongst the best starters in the sport. He’s in that class.

Yeah, as I said, he's in the top five already, and he's still very young

If he avoids major injury, he’ll be in the Hall of Fame, even with the current crop of morons with votes. I was just objecting to the claim that he’s the best. To that, I said, not yet.

My thoughts

Ortiz is 800 years old and has trouble staying in shape – I don’t know that I’d count on him to have a bounceback year. I’d probably put Vlad on one of the teams before him.

Unlike cmath, I’ve got one argument in the infield, although not on a high level – I don’t think Morneau should make your third team ahead of Texeira.

I’d put Greinke on top of the starting pitcher list, but you can’t go all that wrong with any of the guys you picked.

Couple comments. I know that Ortiz had a down year last year, but he still hit 28 HR’s and had 99 RBI. And most of that production was done in the second half of the season. That’s not too bad.

On the Morneau issue over Teixeira, if you recall, Morneau was having another MVP type of season last year (he led the AL in HR and RBI in August) before hurting his back and having his production drop considerably. The injury was bad enough that he was eventually sat down for the remainder of the year. When the injury issue sprang up he was on pace for around 40 HR and 130 RBI. I don’t see why he couldn’t come close to those numbers this season barring another season ending injury.

Ortiz hit 27 homeruns

after June. He’s not what he once was, and probably not the best DH in the sport, but there are still signs that he can be a very productive bat. I can foresee a 30 homerun season this year, out of the 6 spot.

Besides little nitpicks, there is one huge problem

Ryan Howard should be nowhere near this list.

A-Rod?

Come on, A-Rod is in the top 3 at 3B.

Cuddyer

Cuddyer is not in the top 3 at his position either; Ichiro maybe?

Grady Sizemore and Carlos Beltran should be in CF.

None of the DH are as valuable as the 4th-8th best 1B (Gonzalez, Teixeira, Youkilis, Cabrera).

After A-Rod, Zimmerman and Wright are both better than the AZ 3B.

Jason Bay and Carl Craword are better than Carlos Lee. I like Pedroia over Kinsler. I like Yadier Molina over Wieters.

Because he can hit 5 consecutive home runs!

Or five consecutive seasons with ne HR

If it wasn’t for Punto hitting 2 HR in 2008 (power surge!), he’d be trying for his fifth consecutive this year.

That's a bad clubhouse or something

On paper, they should contend for the division title, not lose 92 games.

1) Johan
2-5) Assorted dreck

yikes.
