Blyleven on the brink

Bert Blyleven and Andre Dawson were the top returning candidates from last year's Hall of Fame ballot. Based on reported ballots it looks like Bert has a very good chance of breaking through the 75% threshold on this ballot. Baseball Think Factory is keeping track of ballots from reporters who have listed their choices. There are approximately 600 ballots yearly. With 72 ballots counted, Blyleven has 83.3% of the vote - third after Alomar and Dawson. Barry Larkin is a strong 4th with ~60%. The BTF tally has historically been high for Bert but by no more than 5%.

The numbers are in Bert's favor for induction in 2010 with Roberto Alomar and Andre Dawson.

If I had a ballot, I'd vote for Alomar, Appier, Blyleven, Dawson, Larkin, Martinez, McGwire, Raines and Alan Trammell. Sorry Lee Smith and no way on Jack Morris.
