Interest in Wigginton for Third?
Wigginton for 3rd Base?
Hey Twins fans. Let me say, we here in Orioles Land greatly admire the way you guys do things and compete year in and year out. As you may know, we are trying to take a similar approach in our attempts to compete in the AL East.
Today, we announced the signing of Miguel Tejada to play third. I believe we will need to hang on to Robert Andino to be our backup shortstop if Izturis goes down (rather than just shift Tejada over), which pretty much makes Ty Wigginton expendable.
His defense is pretty shoddy, but he can hit more than just a little bit.
Just curious if you would have any interest, and what you think Billy Smith would give up to get him?

I'd give you a bucket of golf balls if you pick up the tab.
I liked him last winter. But I’ve realized my follies.
Wiggy
Honestly… I just don’t see the match. He had a brutally awful year in 2009 and his defense is poor. There really isn’t that much of an upgrade (if at all) over Brendan Harris and at age 32, he’s probably in decline. The Twins would be better off resigning Joe Crede as he offers wonderful defense and power for most likely the same cost as Wiggy.

Punto has value
to this team. Wigginton would not.

punto has minimal value
lets not overstate that, also, if wigginton went back to his old form, i would take him over punto any day.

Wigginton
going back to his old form; highly unlikely…he has had some bad seasons which outweigh his few good seasons. Also, why take that chance? We have Punto who, despite his annoying tendencies, can get on base and is a good defender; Opposed to that is Wiggington who we hope has a good season and is a horrible defender. I would rather have Punto…and that is killing me.

You would have to give a team another player for them to take Punto off our hands
I could just see the headline: “Twins trade Parkins, Punto for cash considerations.”

minimal
Punto and his noodle arm present no value at 3rd, unless he starts hitting like he did in September of last year. Quite frankly, I’d rather take a shot at Joe Crede again then Wiggy. There’s more chance for success, and failure in Joe’s case is injury, not ineffectiveness.

Defense
Is far too important for Wiggy to man to the spot on a daily basis. So I don’t see a match here. Good luck with Tejada, I felt he could have really helped the Twins.
Well, I think his beard might still be lingering around somewhere.
But Kubel’s beard generally runs Facial Hair City these days, so we may never see it during the light of day again. But, if you sneak into the Metrodome late at night, some say you can still hear Lamb’s beard weeping…near where third base used to be…
that would explain
the restless sleeps I have been having. Oh the nightmares!

Funny. You must be watching a different post season than I. I can’t remember the last time the Twins competed for anything of value.

Well, Punto and Tolbert did compete for Gardy’s love last year…
