The Akeppelypse is averted
I wonder if this means the Twins are getting ready to make a trade or sign someone

Same here
I read an interesting article written by a career minor leaguer. It was in regards to health care, actually. When a guy like Keppel get’s cut he loses his employer provided health care. I know Keppel made some bigger bucks being on the major league roster, but for most guys, minor league baseball doesn’t pay real well, and losing health bennies is a big deal. Keeping him on the roster for a while was maybe just a classy move, a little reward for game 163.
I think thats the case.
I just wish they would keep a few roster spots open and quit putting on kids on who have never played above High A. In the long run I think it hurts the young player and serves no real point.

I think I read the same article
It was interesting thinking about pro ballplayers having to make COBRA payments.
it's so easy to forget that not all players make Arod money
but then again the MLB minimum wage is still more than most of us make…
making COBRA payments and collecting unemployment…
What?!
Well…that’s a bummer. May his heroics in Game 163 never be forgotten.

Now, who will they sign?
Or is it a trade that brings more players for the 40 man than they send to the other team?

agreed
why would the Twins have not dropped him from the 40 man roster at the setting date. They must be pursuing a trade and/or free agent signing here. Perkins for Kouzmanoff and signing O-Dawg would be too much to ask for.

They might resign him to pitch at
Rochester incase Delaney,Crain,Neshek,Rauch suck. Can’t we add Casilla to the Deal.

why?
I would rather take Crede at a significantly less contract.

why?
sure it would be nice to have Washburn as he was in Seattle. But why would the Twins do this when we have young pitchers competing for the final spot, especially with Liriano “throwing the live fire out of the ball”.
We already have Pavano as our veteran leader and Baker, Blackburn and Slowey are not rookies any longer. Swarzak and Duensing would be the only Twins “rookies” battling for the final spot. So the “we need a veteran” excuse just falls right on through.
If the Twins do indeed sign him, I hope it is to a minor league contract (Crede style).

i agree
we would be getting an old, probably mediocre pitcher and pushing out a younger guy’s development. i was just bringing up the article, not saying it would be a good move
I realize
that you were just posting the article. I am questioning the Front office here.
Naturally, if the Twins could get the Seattle Washburn (2.64 ERA) as opposed to the Tiger Washburn (7.whatever ERA) that would be fantastic. But why take the risk when money is so important at this stage and the more immediate requirement is Mauer extension and a 2B/3B signing/trade?

The Twins act cheep with the home grown
talent, but they throw it around every year on old talent that backfires. Hold the Money for Mauer,Span,Slowey,Kubel,Blackburn and a second baseman for next year. Stop overpaying for half year players.

Washburn must be willing to take an incentive-laden deal with a home-town discount
This would explain why they released Keppel. It likely means Liriano goes to the bullpen, at least to start the year, and Duensing goes to AAA.

The Twins
cannot get the Seattle Washburn. They do not have anywhere near the outfield defense Seattle did (and does have).

+1
and that’s the problem. How did Washburn do with Detroit’s outfield?
If we get Washburn, expect an ERA somewhere around 5.00. An inning eater, but not a particularly good one.

in my real life 30 team Dynasty League 9(fantasy baseball)
I traded Carlos Gomez, Francisco Liriano, Alexi Casilla, Luke Hughes, Benjamin Tootle
for Cleveland Super- prospect SP Hector Rondon and others…….
blast – that doesn’t look like a good trade right now
I'd rather have Nick Punto playing 3B and Felipe Lopez playing 2B
than Punto playing 2B and Kouzy, Crede, DeRosa or Glaus playing 3B.

Washburn
Over at rumors, says Twins have made an offer to Jarrod Washburn.

Washburn?
If the Twins are still looking for a starting pitcher, I have to ask a question I haven’t heard much of…..Is Slowey going to definately be ready for opening day? How is his rehab going?
If thats not the case then the Twins really do not have that much confidence in their other starters….The Twins do like to have 7 starters available as teams typically use at least 7 starters throughout the season with maybe 2 oe 3 getting 1 to 3 starts.
