Bert Falls 0.8% Short of the Hall
By the narrowest of margins, Bert again fails to make the Hall of Fame. Congratulations to Andre Dawson, but at this point I feel sick to my stomach.

Okay, even if it's not Bert...passing up Alomar?
Not saying that Dawson doesn’t deserve it, but really?

Un F-ing believable
I cannot believe that Alomar did not get in. He should have been a no-brain 1st ballot hall of fame guy. No question.
Insult to injury with that.
.8%? Are you kidding me?

Well, he HAS to get in next year you'd think...

+1
but so will Alomar
and possibly Larkin
remember Mark McGuire and Andres Gallaragga and a few others (Jack Morris) are on the ballot next year also.
I'd rather have Nick Punto playing 3B and Felipe Lopez playing 2B
than Punto playing 2B and Kouzy, Crede, DeRosa or Glaus playing 3B.

Alomar and Blyleven
are both above 70%. I don’t believe anyone has ever finished with 70+% and not been voted in the following year. At least I think I heard that yesterday. So I think they will both reach 75% next year.
Larkin was in the 50% range, so I think it will take at least a couple years for the voters to come his way.

Congratulations BBWAA
You picked the 8th best player on the ballot and passed over 4 no brainers (Blyleven, Alomar, Larkin, Raines) to get there.
This is the problem I have with this process.
These people’s voting is just insane. Wtf?

and I thought the
voting for the All-star game was bad!

The last few years have been just surreal
Dawson, Rice and Sutter instead of Blyleven, Raines and Larkin? It’s like the BBWAA is making the veteran’s committee picks and leaving the best guys for the VC.
If Kaat isn't in, I don't think Blyleven should be
But I don’t really agree with the Dawson decision either. Or some others in the past few years. Bert will be in next year.
BTW, who is going to be added to the ballot next year?
I just looked it up
Next year’s ballot will add:
Wilson Alvarez, Carlos Baerga, Jeff Bagwell, Bret Boone, Kevin Brown, Cal Eldred, John Franco, Juan Gonzalez, Marquis Grissom, Bobby Higginson, Charles Johnson, Al Leiter, Tino Martinez, Raul Mondesi, Jose Offerman, John Olerud, Rafael Palmeiro, Paul Quantrill, Steve Reed, Kirk Rueter, Rey Sanchez, Benito Santiago, B.J. Surhoff, Ugueth Urbina, Ismael Valdez, Larry Walker, and Dan Wilson
I think the one who gets the most consideration of these guys is Juan Gonzalez. Palmeiro would have gotten a lot of votes if not for the incident. In any event, it shouldn’t be a problem for Alomar or Blyleven next year.
I'd go with Bagwell before Gonzalez
In fact, he may very well be the only guy on my ballot out of next year’s newcomers. Palmeiro would be second, I’d have to think long and hard about him, given the positive drug test.

My ballot next year
Blyleven, Larkin, Bagwell, Raines, Alomar, Trammell, Kevin Brown, Mark McGwire, Larry Walker, Edgar Martinez
I’d probably vote for Palmeiro but he’s not one of the 10 best players eligible.
Juan Gonzalez
Juan Gonzalez is a terrible pick, shouldn’t even be in the discussion. He couldn’t play defense and his career was way too short.
I wouldn't go that far
He played 17 seasons (although only about 11 would you consider full). He was a two time MVP and finished in the top 5 two other times and 6 silver sluggers. Career OPS over .900 (about 100 points more than Dawson) with about as many HR as Dawson.
I actually think he might be more deserving than Dawson (although I wouldn’t vote for either).
Supreme juicer
Everywhere he went, he got other guys to juice.

Bingo
Wasn’t Gonzalez all over the Mitchell Report and Canseco’s books?

Larry Walker and Jefff Bagwell
I'd rather have Nick Punto playing 3B and Felipe Lopez playing 2B
than Punto playing 2B and Kouzy, Crede, DeRosa or Glaus playing 3B.

Blyleven was pretty clearly better than Kaat (and John)
and is much more comparble to his contemporaries who are already in, like Jenkins and Carleton.

Bert on XM Radio right now
“I’d like to strangle five writers out there.”
“2011 for Blyleven”
He also expressed surprise that Alomar didn’t make it on the first ballot.
During his interview with MLBN
he really didn’t seem too down about it. I’m sure he’ll be in next year, but at this point, I’d think he’d be frustrated beyond belief.

2011
He will be elected next year.
I have somewhat of problem with a guy though who feels he deserves to be in an exclusive club. I personally think he belongs there, but for him to cry about the process because he isnt included is a bit arrogant.
Wonder how many expletives were uttered during his interview?
This
is absolutely the most outrageous action by the Hall. To deprive bert blyleven one of the most deserving HOF canidates in years is ludacris. I mean i strongly believe and am almost positive he will get the call next year i’d stil be pissed if i was him, sure its honor to get in, but year after year he keeps getting closer and closer to the point where it is now only 5 votes, crazy. Its like wtf give a guy a fucking break
Want Railings got tohttp:// www.Kassonconcrete.com
Wait a few years
More outrageous actions are sure to come.
