Redmond re-signs with Twins

Just heard a rumor from a reputable source that's real close with a player from a certain Central Division team. Mike Redmond will take a one-year minor league deal with the Twins to presumably compete with Jose Morales and Drew Butera for the Twins' starting catcher spot in 2010. My source also tells me this signing is linked to a major trade involving the Twins and Yankees: the Twins getting CF/LF Brent Gardner, C/DH super-prospect Jesus Montero, and occasional spot-starter Kei Igawa. The Yankees, meanwhile, get the speedy, versatile, and under-team-control-for-the-next-3-years OF Denard Span. C Joe Mauer is also going to the Yankees. Obviously this is a major trade for both teams, though it's probably too soon to see which team came out ahead...

This move might make the Yanks the front-runners for the 2010 Wild Card. They'll draw strong competition from the rapidly improving Baltimore Orioles, however. Pretty potent line-up for the Bombers, IMO:

  1. SS Derek Jeter
  2. C Joe Mauer
  3. 1B Mark Teixeira
  4. 3B Alex Rodriguez
  5. CF Curtis Granderson
  6. RF Nick Swisher
  7. DH Jorge Posada
  8. 2B Robinson Cano
  9. LF Denard Span

Anyways, I'm curious to hear Twins fans' reactions to this signing, if there are any.

P.S. you can trust me that this scoop is legit. My source does landscaping for an agent of one of the players involved. Oh, and I live in Ohio, which is like halfway between Minnesota and New York.

In case you didn't catch on: Yes, this is satire.

What do you make of the Twins' most recent move?
I like it. Mauer was never as good as Pierzynski anyways - too injury-prone.

As long as we sign Melvin Mora to play 3B, I'm happy.

Nice!

I like how it just gradually gets more ridiculous.

Hahaha

These ‘scoops’ are funny…

Jesse....

….is there some way we can keep this garbage off our site? Personally, I like to think that Twinkie Town is a meaningful site and with the exception of April 1st, what we have on the site is worth our time to read.

I think Mike's just having fun.

If we start getting a heavy influx of rubbish I’ll start getting more strict on content, but Mike admits this is satire. I do it myself sometimes (often failing miserably). Getting stuff like this from time to time won’t stop us from being a less meaningful site.

but its two in a row

starting with m3 and his Twins inked Jermaine Dye. Seriously, maybe one post on this caliber, but not two. I am with roger13 here. Lets get this kind of crap to a minimum. Personally, I think that mike and m3 went in on this together – or even they are the same person and just have different sign in names.

mike is doing this to show just how foolish m3 looks. a little sarcasm goes a long way. just smile and enjoy the ride

Disagree

This was one of the best TwinkieTown FanPosts ever.

I kinda wish Mike hadn’t added the “This is satire” tag (the ridiculous nature of the trade and the fact that he completely copied the Dye post were enough of a giveaway), because that would’ve made for even more hilarious “STOP THE RUMOR MONGERING!” posts.

Thanks Beef

But I thought long and hard about that trade proposal; trying to make it seem believable, weighing each team’s long and short-term needs, strengths and weaknesses, payroll flexibility, and organizational philosophy. I mean, Kei Igawa’s got real promise – only 1 year removed from a 3.45 ERA in AAA!

All right, I’ll just stop.

Sorry to be so cross

But that line-up makes me want to barf. And wanting to barf diminishes the enjoyment of my martini. And that is a crying shame.

Fortunately,

as masterful as Cashman has been this off-season in trades, there’s no way Bill Smith lets someone pry Mauer from our collective frostbitten fingers.

News of the glorious extension is coming any day now…

Just having fun, roger

and poking fun at the previous post by a certain Seattle fan, that I too found to be a bit ridiculous.

C’mon, it’s been a slow news month for Twins fans.

Now

I would not at all mind if Reddawg re-signed with the Twins to a minor league contract. In the event that Morales breaks his ankle again, it is always good to have the additional catcher. Plus, I just want him to retire as a Twin.

I also would like to see Redmond retire as a Twin...

…and really want to see him coaching in Ft. Myers (GCL) next summer. I think he would be a great coach.

And if something happens to Morales, we are fine at catcher. Wilson Ramos is ready to make his major league debut sometime in 2010. Whether it is out of spring training, during the season or September, doesn’t matter, he is ready.

Obviously

And yet some people still took it seriously.

But when I make it big and start writing for the Onion or some such outlet, I’ll be sure to not put “This is satire” at the end of every post. Thanks for the tip.

Alright my two cents (and yes I understand its only worth a penny at best)

This is obviously just fun right from the start. Absolutely no harm, especially in the dead of winter when we have so little to talk about. Any harm there might have been was (IMHO) intelligently undone at the end by letting everyone know it is a joke. Lots of funny stuff in there, and a good harmless read.

The post from the Seattle fan is the one that crosses the line. Having a title that claims its a done deal is poor form. Claiming he has some insider info, yet giving us that pretty unbelievable deal, and then trying to pass it off as more than just wishful thinking, is just as poor. Almost as poor as people here who have posted to some jackass’ Twitter account which vaguely hints at some crap that posters here claim must somehow be worthwhile…

C’mon people recognize humor when you see it, accept it when it is clearly acknowledged as humor, and let it go even if you don’t think it is funny. Or go ahead and post if you think it crosses some line. But for me, I find people who post things in absolute terms, (Joe Crede was the best 3rd baseman in the league last year); people who ‘accidentally’ mislead us by mis-titling; and people who only come on to deride others and argue without contributing to be FAR more annoying than the occassional humorous post, or even the occassional immature, meaningless, attempts at humor we often see here (big finger pointed at myself, ahem.).

I know its been slow around here

But when stuff comes up like this I expect it to be actual news or something like that. I don’t mind the satire from time to time but is there a way that we could more easily separate the satire from the legitimate news or commentary?

Easy way to sort through funny stuff and real stuff

Provide a link to your information if you are serious, if no link is provided we will assume that you are just pulling our legs.

IMHO This was hilariously funny. Some guys here are to uptight about this kinda stuff. I mean honestly settle down. People are just trying to lighten up the mood around here it’s been pretty quiet otherwise. But I cant tell you how to act so if you wanna get all serious about this kinda stuff then that is your prerogative
