Mike Maroth?
Should be a good replacement for R.A. Dickey.

Maroth...
…won’t make the team. He’s looking for an opportunity to prove something, and he isn’t a bad guy to bring in to eat some innings in spring training. At worst, he might provide an arm at Rochester.

Ben Revere
Wow, they usually wait until AA before they give a guy a spring training invite.
Interesting that they moved Dinkleman to OF

We still need a 4th outfielder
who can hit. I was also looking for Lis,Martin, and Fox. Fox or Waldrop might be able to fill the Middle innings. I was suprised the didn’t chose Fox. They took Parmelee and Peterson over Lis and Robbins, no problem there. That happened to Martin (Revere)? Is Pridie better and thats it. The other outfielders all seem to be battling for LF or pinch hitter spot. Note that Benson did not come along, they might want him to get more playing time down. Next year!

It’ll probably be Jason Pridie unless they find a free agent.

Some...
Revere, Rams….gives them some exposure to being around major league guys.
The Twins can always bring Fox, Martin, et al over for some games.
Dinkleman and Portes, surprise. Singleton, too. No Macri or Jason Jones? Tim Lahey, anyone?

No Martin?
Gosh, I’d be disappointed if he didn’t get into the mix for 4th outfielder. Not that I think he is necessarily the answer, but because a guy like that deserves a shot.
The Twins have to many players
for the same positions. The Rochester Team will be loaded this year and so will the New Britian Team. I guess the Twins have seen some of the older guys mentioned, and want some of the younger guys to get that exposure. Plus Martin, Jones, Macri are out of the mix unless they Kill this spring. 3b- Crede,Valencia,Hughes Tons of pitchers (sorry Jones and Fox) and as long as Pridie is on the 40 man roster, Martin is the odd man out for CF. The other outfielders are Corner back-ups and pinch hitters. I still want to see Robbins and Lis get some at bats also DeVries,Bromber,Gutierrez pitching some games. We are Loaded!!!

"Twins Release Spring Training Invites"
Don’t they usually wait until near the end of spring training to release them? Ha ha. I guess this makes it easier for the guys who won’t make the team. ;D
All kidding aside, I can’t wait to get to see some of the youngsters like Gibson, Hughes, Valencia, and some others. Should be a good time!

I don't think anyone
noticed you in the Pic (HaHa). unless your wearing the red top. One Question. Is anyone at spring training out of options? Plouffe,Pridie,Tolbert,Casilla?
Casilla was optioned each year from 07-09,
so he should be out of options. Tolbert should have two years of options left, Plouffe will have all three. Pridie should have at least one option left.
Thanks
you lose track of the up’s and down’s of the young players. Do you think there be any other suprise players like Crain? Majares? cut or sent down?
Well,
right now the 40-man roster is full. So if they want to add another free agent, they’ll have to DFA someone, which means you have to pass them through waivers. Crain seems like the most likely pitcher, although I think the Twins would rather make a trade at this point so they can get something back that’s worthwhile. That’s where Perkins comes in, too.
For position players, if the Twins want to sign a free agent infielder then Harris and Casilla are the most likely options for release. Tolbert still has an option or two, so it’s not a problem to start him in Rochester. Same with Pridie.
This is why if the Twins wand to add someone, it probably shouldn’t be for a negligible upgrade like Washburn. Not only would they be spending more money, but they’d have to cut ties with somebody to do it.
Crain - only if we're looking to save the ~$2M
If we ended up signing Washburn (which I’m not advocating), I would DFA Condrey or Province before Crain. This is why adding someone like de los Santos or Van Mil is so frustrating. Yes, they would have been exposed to the Rule 5 draft, but I doubt any major league team is going to carry one of them on their active roster all year…

If Plouffe was on the 40 man roster last season
Doesn’t that mean we used one of his options in 2009? Or did we wait until after the season to add him? My memory is fuzzy, I blame beer.

Plouffe...
used one option year in 2009. So, he has two option years to go. He was added last November (2008).
Well...
The Twins could out Butera or Tolleson to clear a 40-man spot. Otherwise, they’d be best to tradeoff one or two of Crain/Manship/Swarzak/Perkins, Casilla or Pridie.
I doubt anyone would claim Tolleson. Butera might seek employment elsewhere. The the Twins would have Ramos and Lehmann at Rochester, assuming other AAA catchers don’t become available.
You can also have Harris on the bubble IF the Twins get a real third baseman, and especially if they get a REAL 2nd baeman.
Be interesting to see if Lahey, Macri and Jones return to Rochester when minor league camp breaks. Considering their chances to make the Twins…are they better than castoffs from other teams? Of New Britain promotions?

Not Crain
He was very good after coming back from Rochester. I see no reason to get rid of him at this point.

Wow, harsh...
…he just turned 26 after being drafted when he was 23. He’s a big strikeout guy, I hope that translates to the major league level.
This is it though, for him. He’ll get a shot at some point this year, and he’ll have to play well enough to force the Twins to make a decision. That’s one of the rough parts about being an older college draftee…you get less time to prepare for The Show, and you get less chances to prove you deserve it once you get there.
Lots of college relievers don't break through until the late 20s
Joe Nathan, for example. Slama will be added to the 40 man after this year, if not before. Then he’ll have three years to break through before he must pass through waivers. I’m certain he will be able to break through in the next couple of years.

Slama
Slama wasn’t added to the 40 man roster because he didn’t have to be, so why waste the spot. He’ll be up. He’ll be solid. I don’t think anyone expects him to be dominant in the big leagues.
+1
That’s what I meant. In principle, the Twins don’t even have to keep him on the 25 man roster for four years. At that point, he’d be a 30-year-old prospect. I highly doubt that will happen. I expect at least a September call-up this year—which is four years after he signed his contract—hardly old from an experience standpoint.

Sounds like Neshek.....
The disadvantage of being a college signee. Unless you can jump right to the majors (okay, a season+ thru the minors), there is little need for a team to push you and add you until you spend your three years in the system and anotehr couple of the 40-man. Then they have three years before arbitration. Maybe a couple of arbitration years…good deal for the team.
