All Ex-Twins Team, 2010

2009 Roster
2008 Roster
2006 Roster

In '05 we were just getting started, but I'm not sure why I didn't do one of these in 2007. Oh well. Onto team four in five years.

Even before I start, I know this is going to be a tight season. The Twins haven't had a big exodus of decent players the last season or two, and role players who filled out rosters are starting to disappear. Well, let's suck it up and see what we can put together, shall we?

That's the weakest lineup of ex-Twins as we've had. Ever. Baseball Musing's lineup tool insists the best lineup would be Hunter-McDonald-Bartlett-Ortiz-Blake-Jones-Pierzynski-Gomez-Castillo, but the lineup I've chosen scores just 4.494 runs per game...or a rather paltry 728 runs per season. Not a good offense.

It doesn't get any better when you turn to the bench. There weren't any good options, but our backup catcher is a sentimental choice: Mike Redmond. For the second year in a row we're without an outfielder, but we do have Randy Ruiz. He might be able to bumble around in a corner. Cristian Guzman, Orlando Cabrera and Adam Everett round out the five-man bench.

Check out the rest of the team after the jump.

Honestly...who thought these guys would perform as well as they did? At least those last three. A real life rotation such as this one would be good enough to have most fans running in terror and ripping their eyes and ears off so they wouldn't have to endure the pain. But sometimes real life is funny, and advanced metrics be damned Dickey, Hernandez and Silva had good years.

Generally, the numbers aren't too terrible. Romero walks too many guys and Lohse wasn't really that good, but this season's 'pen is definitely better than last year's. Of course, four of the six guys are lefties, but given the choice between them, LaTroy Hawkins, Boof Bonser, Phil Humber or Juan Rincon I'm going with the left-heavy artillary.

Okay, I'd probably take Boof, but he barely pitched this year.

Speaking of Hawkins, he had made the three previous All Ex-Twins teams. As he's missed out for the first (last?) time, the only guys who have made the roster all four seasons are Ortiz, Pierzynski, Blake, Beimel and Romero.
