IMO the Twins need to get more athletic by improving their outfield speed and defense. By somehow unloading M. Cuddyer, it really helps the payroll and gives us so many more options elsewhere. Offer Boston Cuddyer, one of Benson/ A Morales/ or Revere and a Double A player for Jed Lowrie and Jacoby Ellsbury. This improves our outfield immensly and gives us a pretty good hitting/fielding infielder who can play all 4 infiel positions. Our lineup would look like Ellsbury/Casilla/Mauer/Morneau/Young/Kubel/Valencia/Hardy/Span. You can move Ellsbury/Span/Casilla in the batting order as manager sees fit. Our 4 player bench could be Butera/Tolbert/Lowrie and I would sign Marcus Thames for 1.5-2 mill. Gives you 2 switch hitting infield options and a good RH option for DH/PH or somebody who can play the OF in a pinch. That is your 13 everyday players for around 61 million. The starters are Liriano/Blackburn/Slowey/Duensing/Baker. Payroll around 15 million. Your relievers areNathan/Capps/Mijares/Neshek/Manship for around 21 million. This makes your payroll around 96 million with only 2 pitchers to add. This really gives you flexibility because you can add any 2 relievers you can sign for up to 10M, you can bring Pavano back and slide one of the other starters to the pen and sign another cheap reliever, or you can even fit J Thome in by jockeying some other players and keeping the payroll under 110M. It even allows you to trade some of your top-level rookies for a Grienke and jockey your roster to stay under 110M. By unloading Cuddyer and not bringing Pavano back really opens up the payroll for some maneuvers. It also makes our OF speed and Defense alot better. I know unloading Cuddyer might not be a popular option but I think it is your best option for building a team for next year.
