Twinkie Town 2011 Top 50.....Prospect Number 10!
With a strong push from Sunday voters, Max Kepler-Rozycki beat Angel Morales for the ninth spot in this year's Top 50. With 122 of 327 votes (37%), Kepler-Rozycki beat Morales who was second with 96 votes.
Dropping from voting for the tenth ranked prospect will be Billy Bullock. Added to the next round will be Kyle Waldrop and Rene Tosoni. Tosoni returns after being in the first five rounds while this will be Waldrop's first time in the poll. Waldrop, a former first round pick, was one of the Interntational League's top relievers until fading late in the season. A veteran of this fall's AFL, Waldrop is a candidate to be part of the Twins bullpen at some time next year.
Voting for the last spot in our Top 10 will remain open until 3pm, Monday, December 20th.

About 5 spots too high for Max Kepler-Rozycki
He’s very raw as far as baseball skills go. He’s high risk and so far I haven’t seen the high reward.
Yeah, what happened?
No one even talked about him. Did someone just keep voting for him over and over?
hahaha.
I voted for Bromberg last round, and will do so again. But Morales is high the MKR in my book.
"FTYITAWAB" -less cowbell, more 'neau
That's why Sano was 1st last year
I’m still convinced someone decided to rig that, which is stupid since these are community rankings.
Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?
Holland happened
The vote went viral.

For a seventeen year old without the experience Sano had...
…Kepler-Rozycki’s numbers were relatively similar at the GCL, although he didn’t have the home runs Sano had. Several key people in the organization believe he can be as good as anyone they have. They also understand that there is more risk related to him because he has less of a track record. Should he be Top 10, probably, IMO.
Kepler
Kepler has huge upside. I was actually impressed that he held his own even in the GCL in 2010. He’s not Sano. We know that. But he does have amazing upside, and does have all the tools. I wouldn’t have him quite yet, but it’s not terrible that he’s here. He ended the season by going 10-22 in his last six games. I’d expect him to get to Beloit in 2013 (two more years of EST/Rookie Ball).
Really?
10-22 his last 6 games? Sorry but I can’t look at any 6 game stretch and get excited.
Tools vs. skills
His tools are on par with Bryce Harper. He just didn’t have any baseball competition growing up. So he’s got a lot of skills to learn. But he’s also a quick study. He’s not out of place in the top 15. I voted for Morales myself, but I would have voted for him between Gutierrez (my next vote) and Bullock (the one after that) if Morales had won the next round.
I agree with Seth. He’ll spend another two years in rookie ball and be a 20 year old force in Beloit in 2013. Assuming he ends up playing for the Beloit in 2013, he’ll need to be protected with an option. Then he’ll have three option years to stick with the big club. That gives him a small window to ascend from low A to the majors.

Yeah, I don't think Kepler's totally out of place where he was ranked
I didn’t vote for him yet either, but still, as far as I understand, the key to being an excellent prospect right out of high school isn’t so much having actual baseball skills as it is being an incredible athlete in general. Everything I’ve heard is that Kepler is an incredible athlete. So he’s very high ceiling, but also very low floor. He’s probably the only guy left who you’d call a potential star, no?
Potential stars
Kepler: Could be on par with Harper in five years, also could be working for the Geek Squad
Gutierrez: Could be a stopper in the bullpen, also could be Carlos Silva
Bullock: Could be a great closer, more likely a decent set-up man
Salcedo: One of the few guys in the system with ace stuff
Polanco: The first real shortstop prospect we’ve had since Knoblauch
Goodrum: Tools comparable to Aaron Hicks, skills just above Kepler

Potential very good pitcher - Bromberg
“Bromberg has four pitches in his arsenal, but rarely throws his 95-mph four-seam fastball. Instead, he throws a 92 mph two-seamer, a circle-change, and his strikeout-pitch, a curveball. Bromberg boasts two flavors of his deadly breaking ball: a biting curve at 83 mph, and a slow arcing curve that usually registers around 76 mph.” – Plagiarized from Twins Target.
Sounds like he could be another Baker/Slowey. That’s not an all-star but I’ll take the known solid pitcher over a lottery ticket. My philosophy in ranking prospects is to rank the top guy as the player I’d trade anyone else in the system to get. I’d trade Kepler-Rozycki to get Bromberg.
Philosophy.
That’s an interesting philosophy for prospect voting. I like it.

Bromberg reminds me of Bonser
I would slot him in among the future stars listed above, probably after Salcedo.
I tend to rate upside above the here and now. My criteria are:
1. What is his upside? I will tend to rate star upsides ahead of solid performers.
2. What is his level? I will tend to rate guys at AAA higher than AA, A ball, etc.
3. What has he done? I do look at numbers; but they’re not as important as scouting reports because guys work on stuff and it adversely affects their numbers. Still, if two guys are at the same level, performance helps determine who’s better.
4. What is his age? Some people put this higher than I do. I’ve just seen a lot of late bloomers over the years. The downside to late bloomers, however, is they tend to have short shelf lives (e.g. Lew Ford). So if a guy is particularly young for his level, he gets extra credit. And an oldster can get dropped down, particularly if he repeats a level.

Compared him to Bonser
Not a bad comparison but Bromberg has walked fewer and given up fewer home runs. Otherwise similar performance at similar ages.
Kepler
Terry Ryan will tell you, " their job is to turn young Kepler into into a ball player, and they’ll do it!. He’s a little sore today, he’ll be sore for awhile, but he’ll be ok". TR absolutely gushes when he tells you about young Kepler.
Kepler and Morales are on completely different levels of ability. Kepler is definately a top 10 guy in the system.
This round should go to Carlos Gutierrez., power BP arm.
what?
Morales ceiling is every bit as high as Max’s. And he’s performed at a higher level.
There’s just no rational explanation for this sudden surge in votes for Max. Someone screwed the system.

in Twins Eyes?
I don’t think that the Twins brass is terribly high on Morales. I’m way higher on him than the people whose opinions actually matter.
Any idea why?
Not enough grit?

I hope this is the last one.
Starting to get old.
HA! not even close.

What else are you doing?
It nicely passes the time until weeks pitchers and catchers report. 8 weeks!

Haha...
I just come to get some good reading and the entire page is prospect voting.
8 more weeks of agony…
This is good stuff

2014 Outfield Nicknames
Not since the Soul Patrol has their been such a rich group of OF prospects accompanied by so many cool monikers.
Morales, Rosario, and Arcia (actually, we could use a third Puerto Rican for this one—get on that Radcliffe): Los Tres MariCatchies.
or
Morales, Hicks, and Benson: The Three Musketeers. Chocolate and Caramel on the outside, Chewy, White Nougat in the Middle.
I’d still put Hicks, Morales, Sano, Arcia, Kepler, Benson, and Rosario in the same hat. If one of them pans out as a legitimate superstar I will be happy.
Morales, Rosario, Ortiz...
…Daniel Ortiz was a fourth round pick from Puerto Rico. Oswaldo Arcia is from Venezuela.
Nate Roberts
I’d him to that potential future Twins outfielder group. The kid can flat out play.
I hear his name brought up occasionally.
I keep forgetting about him myself. I don’t know if it’s because he was injured and out for a while or the fact that he has the most plain sounding name in the English language which allows him to blend in with the croud.
