Twinkie Town 2011 Top 50...Prospect #13!
As many expected, Carlos Gutierrez ran away with the twelfth spot in this year's ranking. Gutierrez collected 117 of the 262 votes cast (44%) in today's shortened poll. Adrian Salcedo was second with 38 votes.
All of the players received more than two percent, thus, none will be dropped from the next round. Added to the voting for the thirteenth ranked player will be starter Deolis Guerra. Guerra returns after being eliminated earlier in this year's voting. Guerra, who is currently pitching very well in his native Venezuela, is poised to take the big step up to AAA sometime next summer.
Voting for this round will be open until 3pm on Friday, Christmas Eve.

Yo, Adrian!
Baseball reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.-Terence Mann/James Earl Jones in FoD
I know who the 13th ranked prospect shouldn't be
Anthony Slama. I think it is more likely he is waived than he provides 3 WAR to the Twins. He has no upside at all, walks too many and doesn’t have major league stuff. I have Waldrop ahead of Slama.
Slama is a nibbler with deception and that won’t play well in the big leagues. Better hitters either laid off or teed off.
That's quite the scouting report
based off of less than 5 innings. I’m not saying he should be ranked this high at all but to make that claim after 5 innings is ridiculous. That and it was after he had been throwing way too many innings at AAA. Which I might add he dominated there as well. The guy has some control issues it’s true but I think he still has a very good chance to be a valuable member of the bullpen in the coming years.
Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?
Not just majors
That’s how he pitched in the minors as well. The difference is, that approach can get minor league hitters out. Major league hitters are more patient.

Salcedo now
Not sure who to vote for next. I’m flip-flopping between Parmelee, Plouffe and Tosoni. The upside pick is Rosario. I have Hermsen or Dean as the best pitcher available and neither is on the ballot.
Parmelee or Waldrop for me next round.
But its Adriano for me.
"FTYITAWAB" -less cowbell, more 'neau
Probably Tosoni
He beats Parmelee because he did more in AA at the same age and he plays better defense.
Tosoni, Parmelee, Salcedo for Me
I expect it’ll end up going Salcedo, Parmelee, Tosoni though the way things look right now.
Eddie Rosario
Might be Morales part 2. Not sure why he isn’t drawing any attention.
4th round pick, 18yrs old, good not great rookie campaign
Good prospect but there are still other players who haven’t been ranked yet that have combinations of being closer & having showed more.
Tough for me to see Rosario over Tosoni. I wouldn’t put him over Parmelee either & I have trouble with him over Plouffe or Bulllock.
For someone that young that hasn’t shown much yet its hard to rank this high unless there are consistent gushing reports projecting stardom. MKR went to early for my liking and I don’t like Salcedo here for the same reason (Isn’t it just as likely as not that Salcedo’s career path follows Deolis Guerra’s?)
Rosario's rookie campaign
An OPS of .771 with 22 SB and 5 HR in that league/ballpark for an 18 year old is nothing to sneeze at. He is one year older than a kid who put up this line there: 281/.342/.338 with 4 SB and 0 HR. That kid is already on the board in the top 10. Also Rosario is a CF whereas that kid is a RF/LF/1B. Who’s that kid? Max Kepler.
Rosario is real. A lot of smart people rate him higher than Morales, including John Sickels.

I believe Rosario will be the best of the three from Puerto Rico...
…and I still expect Morales to make it. A close look at what he accomplished in the GCL makes one realize he could be very special. Was in the top 10 in the league in nearly every category.
No he doesn't.

He has: #10 MKR , #14 Angel Morales, #16 Eddie Rosario
In any case I hear what you’re saying but all I’m saying is it takes a guy like Miguel Sano for me to vote over guys that are closer and look like they can contribute (even if they aren’t going to be stars).
Coming up I have (not in order) Tosoni, Bullock, Salcedo, Bromberg and I still haven’t cut bait on Parmelee or Plouffe (though I don’t know why)
Maybe I could see voting Rosario in the middle or back end of that list.
I vote differently
First, thanks for the correction. I should have said “Sickels ranks him almost as high as Morales.”
Not saying there’s a right way. I’ve just gradually moved from looking at numbers and weighting proximity heavily to looking at scouting and weighting upside heavily. I’ve just seen too many guys hit their upside as AAA players and never make the jump to the big leagues. Also, the older I get, the faster it seems to take for high upside guys to make it.
As far as guys who could/will contribute in 2011, I would rank them thus:
1. Hughes: I view him as the right handed bench bat
2. Plouffe: He’ll get an injury call-up and be up for Septmber
3. Bullock: He’ll get a look late in the year
Bromberg is already above those guys. Salcedo is just one year ahead of Rosario. I voted Saledo in this round. I have Roasrio in my top 20. It’s hard to compare position players with pitchers, but I’d say they are comparable. I’d definitely rank Rosario ahead of Tosoni. He’s intriguing. But he’s not had a healthy year in a while and is said to be a below average fielder.

I had a tough time choosing between Rosario & Tosoni...
…If Tosoni had been healthy and played as he did the first six weeks of the season, I would definitely have taken him ahead of Rosario. Had Tosoni been healthy all year, he may have been the outfielder brought up instead of Revere. But he wasn’t and hasn’t been healthy.
On the flip side, Rosario appears to be something special, speed, power and a good batting eye! I can’t recall the last time a Twin has led the GCL in stolen bases. Add to that being tied for 8th with five home runs (two behind the leader) with the eleventh best OPS. And only 28 strikeouts in 194 at bats with 16 walks is something the three big time outfielders ahead of him (Morales, Hicks & Arcia) didn’t do. He could become the best of all of them. Certainly merits a Top 15 spot to me!
I'm in complete agreement
If Tosoni has a full year like his second half, he’d be just behind Benson and ahead of Revere in my book of Twins outfieilders.

Gosh, how could I mess that up so bad?
I meant, if Tosoni had a full year like his first six weeks…. Blame it on holiday ADD syndrome.

Merry Christmas Roger!
Thanks so much for all you do around here.

I'm a big believer in Eddie Rosario
He had a very fine season in the GCL, especially to start the year. That gets to be a long year down there in the dog days of summer, numbers usually falter a bit. The kid showed pop with 5 homers, doubles etc, his walk/k ratio was very respectable, hit almost .300 and swiped a lot of bags.
I think all around/overall he has a higher upside than morales. He’s got better base running ability, both have shown some pop and his eye looks to be much better in the early returns.
I’m pretty high on him
Next round is clear as mud
But I’m flipping a coin between Tosoni and Rosario. That is unless Hermsen gets added.
I voted for Bullock
I like him more than Gutierrez. He stuck out 60 in 37 IP in AA & has a chance to move up fast if his control sharpens a little. He’s got a big power arm & that’s something the Twins could use. He could be like Balfour or Crain when they first came up.
