2010 MLB PREDICTIONS
I just posted this in another forum that I frequent. My prediction is quite optimistic for our home town nine, and I know it may be more then a bit of a homer pick, but I LOVE THIS TEAM. With all the additions and the new stadium... I am hopeful that our destiny this year may be great!

It's early, and I reserve the right to change my predictions leading up to the season. A lot of signings and injuries can still take place between now and opening day. I feel really confident in my Twins this year. New stadium. New faces (Jim Thome, Orlando Hudson, JJ Hardy to name a few). A long term contract for Joe Mauer soon to be finalized. A rematch of the 1987 World Series with the Cardinals just seems to complete the picture. It should be an awesome season. I really can't wait for opening day! GO BASEBALL!

I'm guessing Chicago will play a bit better
Otherwise, I’d suspect a lot more than 94 wins out of Minnesota. I do think that baring health, the central will be ours for the taking. We are a much better team than the one that forced 2 game 163s. I’m guessing we won’t need a third one this season.
The Yankees are probably due for a bit of a drop off. Too many old guys. It’s going to cost them at one point.
Really?
I can’t say I like a team with an average age of 42.

Winning the division by 11 games
is entirely possible if not likely this season. The ChiSox should be the best competition for the Twins this year, and I truely believe the Twins are a FAR superior team in 2010.
LDS Matchups
Not that it matters, and I’d certainly take the final result, but I think with those records the Twins, as the 2 seed, would get Tampa in the LDS, not the Rangers. Likewise in the NL – the Wild Card (in your predictions, the Giants) can’t play its own division’s winner, so it plays the division winner with the next best record – in this case, Philly.
Predictions
I think your predictions are pretty good, but I’m not sure if three teams in one division are going to get 92+ wins (Yanks, Red Sox, and Rays). I also would be shocked if the Rangers won 92 games. They seem more like an 80 win team to me. Picking the Royals and Reds to be .500 teams is pretty bold too.
The one team I think could surprise you is Oakland with Sheets and Duchscherer coming off injury. They might be the dark-horse team to win that division IMHO.
I think you’re definitely in the ballpark on the Twins’ total.
I wanted to be..
…a little bold with my prediction for the Royals and Reds. I think they are long suffering teams that are improving and have a solid shot at being at .500 come year end.
As far as the Yankees, Rays, Red Sox, go… I think they are all very strong teams, but you are probably right that three 90 plus win teams in a division may well be a stretch. I may have to revisit those numbers.
As far as the Rangers go, I think that win total may be a bit high too. I am picking them to win the division, but I may have to drop their win total and the Angels total too. I realized after I posted the records of each team that I gave every division winner 90 plus wins. I actually don’t think it is very likely that that will happen.
As I said in the first post, “I reserve the right to revisit and change my predictions leading up to the season” and it seems that some minor adjustment may be needed.
Thanks for taking the time to read the post in depth.
Seattle
After all they have done you really see them as third in the division? I think they will win the division, and if they do make the playoffs, look out! Assuming Bedard gets healthy the second half, you are looking at a rotation of King Felix, Cliff Lee, and Bedard, good enough to beat anyone I would say. Sure their offense isn’t amazing, but it is much improved as well, adding to a stellar defense, I wouldn’t be shocked if they shocked some teams both during the regular season and the playoffs.
Are you kidding me!
The Cardinals and Twins in the World Series! First of all the Cards don’t have the offense the Phillies do. The Cards have Albert, and that is it! The Phillies batting order is loaded! The best in the NL, and maybe the best in baseball! The Twins don’t have ptiching to compete with the Yankees or Red Sox! ENOUGH SAID!!!! GO PHILLIES IN 2010!
Works for me
Repeat of 1987… Mauer and Pujols in the World Series. I could see it. On paper, the Phillies look better, but a couple breaks go the other way and I could see St. Louis in front of them. Kind of like Minnesota versus the Yankees, but with a smaller gap on paper…

If the Phills lose a starting pitcher
they could have a serious problem. I’m not impressed with their bullpen as well.
Phills should be the favorite in the NL East but I would expect that they won’t be running away with the division.
Just wait until Ryan Howard eats Chase Utley
Then what are you going to do?

Wainwright and Carpenter should help
But then again I thought that last season too

The big one is a full season of Holliday
THe amazing thing about Albert is, he’s done most of this with very little protection. I can only imagine what will happen when he has protection.

Just made
some changes to the original picks. I adjusted the records a bit and moved Seattle just ahead of Anaheim in the AL West. It made no change to the playoff picture.
