Places to Eat in Ft. Myers?
Flying down to Ft. Myers tomorrow. Need some ideas for places to eat and things to do. Besides baseball of course. We like going to Nino's Italian, but that is pretty much the only place we went last year. Going to be catching Twins/O's, Twins/Mets, Redsox/Pirates, and Twins/RedSox.
I know last year LEN3 had some recommendations but he hasn't posted anything this year from what I can see. Any recommendations? Ideas?

See ya there!
I mostly ate at Times Square, but then again I’m not going to Ft Myers for the food.

Ft. Myers lifer here
Nino’s is one of the best Italian places in town, no doubt about it.
There really aren’t a lot of local “dive” type places anymore. Pretty much everything is major chains now.
Where are you going to be staying exactly? Gulf Coast Town Center is about two miles south from the airport, and has a ton of restaurants and shopping. Continue along Treeline/Ben Hill Griffin and you’ll find Miromar Outlets, which also has a few good places to eat.
If you’re looking for something to do in the evenings when you’re not watching the Twins. From today(Wednesday) to Saturday, the ACHA D3 Hockey Championships are going on at Germain Arena, which is just north of Miromar about a mile and a half south of FGCU’s campus. The hometown Eagles are playing, and there are games basically non-stop all week.
Obviously there’s Ft. Myers Beach, and the weather has gotten better than it has been. Of course, to Minnesotans a 50 degree day isn’t a bad thing, but we’ve gotten back to the sunny 80s we’re used to seeing. If you’re heading there though — Spring Breakers are starting to hit the Island, so be prepared to sit in traffic for an hour or more to get there.
Gator Lanes is a popular hangout for the players, on U.S. 41 about 5 minutes south of Colonial Blvd. (ESPN referred to it as that “dingy bowling alley behind KFC”)
If you’re looking for nightlife, there isn’t a lot of it. There are a couple bars near FGCU, and the Downtown area is better than it’s even been, but for the most part, this area is geared toward the retired crowd, and thus the sidewalks tend to roll up around 10 PM.
If you’re got any more questions, just let me know. I’m trying to get some time off work to catch a few games, myself.
Wonderful
the ACHA D3 Hockey Championships are going on at Germain Arena
that is great because we are both huge hockey fans too. Thanks for all the tips. I’m not sure where we are staying yet. My father plans this trip every year and takes care of the details. He just decided one day last year that he was going to take his adult son to spring training every year! Can’t complain about that.
Anyways, I am really excited for this year’s Spring Training. We know one of the minor league pitching coaches so we will try to work that angle as well.
Thanks for all the great info.
LEN's plus...
We just got back. Didn’t hit up too many different places because I’m cheap (free breakfast at the hotel) and 3 games attended = 3 stadium meals.
LEN has the Beached Whale on his list. Went there and agree that it’s a good place to hit up. If you’re strapped for time, that might not be the best place to go – it took us a long time to get out of Ft Myers Beach w/ traffic.
Also if you’re in a driving mood, we went to the Bubble Room on Captiva. Dinner was good (I’d recommend getting whatever they call the homemade potato chips with bacon and cheese) and dessert was even better. I think the toll for Sanibel/Captiva was 6 bucks, so I’d recommend doing other stuff out there if you make the trek.
Traffic to and from FM beach is awful
It’s a little better to/from Bonita Beach, which has some nice dives with sunset views.

Timing/direction is definitely key
We were into FM Beach about mid-morning from the Bonita side (went to Lover’s Key), little to no traffic. The incoming drive from that end was much better. Plus the homes we saw on the way in were amazing. Ginormous, but because they have such small lot sizes on the gulf, they were all up and down.
After lunch and leaving to the north – not so much. A lot of traffic and not really all that great of scenery from the road. I really liked the residential stuff, so not having that view on the way out made it less desirable (it probably cut down on the rubbernecking a bit though).
Sanibel Island
Honey mooned there and still miss the Hungry Heron’s 3 cheese tortelini…

Why didn't they?
Tony Batista
Mike Lamb
Joe Crede
Do they need any other reasons to not sign an injury prone, past his prime free agent third baseman?
Third stall
Third stall to the left in the Twins Clubhouse bathroom. Hear it has a pull-down TV tray, a tank in back to keep beverages cold, wireless internet, and free napkins! You can call out and get free delivery! Especially in-and-out burgers!

I hope he gives the delivery guy a big tip
In-N-Out Burger is a West Coast chain.

Just got back.
The rain was a bummer. We didn’t get around as much as I would have liked to. Hit up Nino’s which is always good. On Friday when the Twins/Met’s game was canceled we did go over to Germain Arena and saw parts of 4 hockey games. Which was a good alternative to doing nothing.
We did not try going to the beach, we could tell it was going to be busy.
