Twins vs. Mets
The Twins will face LHP Johan Santana for the first time since trading him to the Mets for Carlos Gomez, Philip Humber, Kevin Mulvey, and Deolis Guerra.
Now, however, only Deolis Guerra remains of that original trade as Mulvey has been traded to the Dbacks for Rauch, and Gomez to the Brewers for Hardy.
Johan Santana - J.J. Hardy, Jon Rauch, and Deolis Guerra
(NOTE FROM RANDBALL'S STU: thanks to 33MorneauMVP for posting the game thread while I searched fruitlessly for the Twins starting lineup on the Intarwebs. Stupid Tradition Field wireless is apparently to blame. Carry on with your day.)

David Wright...

look!
he is wearing Polanco’s helmet!

It's only a matter of time
From what I have heard, all players will be using these helmets in the near future.
I think they might be required in the minors this year?

I should wear one all the time

They could be twins.

Harris at DH?
I thought the pitchers had to hit in the NL parks. Are the DH rules different for ST games?
that is what I thought too
but I think the rule is that, if worked out between the teams beforehand, they have the option at DHing or not. The Mets wanted to have Santana bat, probably better than most of their DH options anyway, and the Twins wanted a DH.

Thanks for getting this up, Morneau
Where’d you find the Twins lineup? I couldn’t dig it up anywhere.
I found it under
the scoreboard at mlb.com…the live box was up at about 11:50.
"Don't take life for granted, because tomorrow isn't promised to any of us." - Kirby Puckett
surprised
LaVelle or Joe C never got the Twins lineup up on startrib, so I too had to go digging.
"Don't take life for granted, because tomorrow isn't promised to any of us." - Kirby Puckett
Me, too
They didn’t have it, PP didn’t have it, Kelly T. didn’t have it. Had no trouble finding the Mets lineup. Screw them, though.

ya screw the Mets
I wonder how much Morneau and Mauer like David Wright, because I would not mind seeing him in a Twins uniform. Its obvious who runs this team…who do you think made the trade for Hardy, the signing of Jones, Thome, and Hudson. It certainly wasnt the front office! Now, we just have to fire Ron Gardenhire and make Mauer and Morneau co-managers. Lets get back to the days when the managers actually played in the field!

Twins top of the first
Span – reaches on fielding error
Harris – GIDP
Kubel – singles
Young – K

Kubel is quietly raking this spring

I think that's his MO
Kubel is quietly awesome. Worked out really well for me in my (non-twins fans) fantasy league last year.
Young or Jones in Lf?
I’m not far from saying Jones should start in LF. Young doesn’t have much time left to prove he should play everyday.

Twins came out ahead on this one
Look at Santana’s bloated ERA (5.40) and compare it to Slowey’s nonexistent ERA (0.00). Who is the better pitcher?
"Don't take life for granted, because tomorrow isn't promised to any of us." - Kirby Puckett
sound the trumpets
Valencia rakes!!!! I can see the headlines now, “Punto, Perkins, Tolbert, and a prospect traded to the Padres for Heath Bell” “Danny Valencia booms his way to the big leagues.”
"Don't take life for granted, because tomorrow isn't promised to any of us." - Kirby Puckett
The only way SD does that is if the prospect is Hicks

You get the point, though. Perkins plus Tolbert plus Punto gets you nothing.. Not even your phone call returned

My apologies
I was reading the other thread, where those kind of trades ideas were serious.
by That'sWhatSheSaid on Mar 19, 2010 1:52 PM EDT up reply actions
That's a recurring theme every year with trade proposals.
Half of them involve giving up a litany of maligned scrubs for something useful. Toss in an “unnamed prospect” to balance it out. :-)
Last year, it was Young & Perkins. Someone starts off slumping this year, they’ll join the list.
All fun I guess. Its no fun to propose trading a fan favorite. :-)
yes
that was loaded with sarcasm, but as I said over on the other thread, if the Padres have Eckstein starting at 2B, I am sure they would not mind more crap players.
"Don't take life for granted, because tomorrow isn't promised to any of us." - Kirby Puckett
if who ever playes 3b is going to bat 9th
in the line up, then why can’t it be Valencia? He got the best upside.
by b1 on Mar 19, 2010 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions
you right
but, even if Valencia hits .500 with 10 bombs, they may will keep him down for money reasons.
"I couldn't do that. Could you do that? Why can they do it? Who are those guys?"
He's too old to worry about arbitration
Valencia is already 25 and he’s under team control until he’s 31. Start using his prime years now or he’ll turn into Casey Blake.
Mets
Martinez – K
Tejada – double
Wright – line out
Bay – walk
Murphy – fly out
"Don't take life for granted, because tomorrow isn't promised to any of us." - Kirby Puckett
A couple more hits
And he’ll match Casilla. Late ST push to make the roster… Who can suck less?
No one really wins that contest, unfortunately.
RonGarde: Target Field is going to be exactly like Progressive Field, except you'll have a chance to die of frostbite in the middle of July
I have really high hopes for Slowey this year.
I’ve always liked him more than Baker.

Though their baby faces are somewhat interchangeable. :\

I have a tiny crush on Slowey
He’s like a kinder, gentler less millionaire-y Joe Mauer. :)
Did you not see the part where I mentioned "high hopes for Slowey"?
Spoiler :(

how many outs?
"Don't take life for granted, because tomorrow isn't promised to any of us." - Kirby Puckett
Valencia
2-2, 1 HR, 1 single
Young drew a walk in that AB too…seems to be doing well with his batters eye. It sounds like Young had a good AB yesterday at the Minor League complex as he battled back from an 0-2 count and drew a walk on the 11 pitch thrown or something like that.

And it doesn’t hurt when they’re putting up a 4-spot on Johan and the Mets.
they actually
put up 5 runs against Santana

Hardy Status?
Does anyone know anything more about his injury other than this ‘quad strain’ bs? I wanna see the man get his AB’s this Spring.
just resting
Hardy is a professional just like Mauer and Morneau. All three of them are resting…better to rest than to rush back and reinjure yourself.
"Don't take life for granted, because tomorrow isn't promised to any of us." - Kirby Puckett
Hardy is a professional...
but he’s not just like Morneau and Mauer. Doesn’t have the track record. I agree rest is the priority with an injury like his, but I’m also getting nervous that he’s not getting his time in. Or maybe I just need something to worry about that’s not Mauer’s contract. :)
just resting
…man, I hope so. Just seems like we are going to be inserting him into the starting lineup opening day with little to no preparation. Here’s to hoping for the best.
‘…Or maybe I just need something to worry about that’s not Mauer’s contract.’
+1
I don't know about not having the track record
He was an all star.
"You're thinking too much. Just have fun." -- Bennie "The Jet" Rodriguez in Sandlot
He's been to one all star game and he vastly underperformed in his most recent season
I’m not saying he’s not talented or experienced. I’m saying Joe Mauer he ain’t.
Hardy
has been in the Majors since 2005. Mauer, since, well 2004, but 35 games doesnt really count, so basically since 2005. Thus, they are equal veterans and professionals. Therefore, they know how to take care of themselves.

Joe Mauer nobody ain't

that's what I tell my boss all the time
it’s better I rest at home than come into the office and pull a hammie or hammie spelled w/ a “y”
What happened to Lis & Robbins?
I have no problems with farm hands keeping the MLB-guys fresh during spring training but I just noticed that there is a gap between Brock Peterson and Parmelee on last years organizational chart. I usually don’t know what’s going on in the minors until their season starts.
Does Peterson have competition from below in Rochester?
Lis and Robbins will split time with Peterson in Rochester between 1B and DH
"You're thinking too much. Just have fun." -- Bennie "The Jet" Rodriguez in Sandlot
Thanks...
They don’t get to see spring training action with the big club? Parmelee getting a special look because he was a #1 pick?
Yes
That’s why. Also, Parlelee is considered a better prospect than either Lis or Robbins. I’m sure they’re playing in the minor league camp.

Just got my first chance to see Revere steal a base.
