Dougie Baseball now Eye Chart?

He was my favorite member of the League of Nations and big part of seeing the Twins return to respectability. I knew him as Dougie Baseball (and the subject of my favorite Twins ad) but I guess some call him Eye Chart now...

Star-divide

Here is his player profile from True Blue LA: http://www.truebluela.com/2010/3/19/1380364/2010-player-profile-doug?ref=yahoo

Good for you Doug, it's nice to see that you are still being talked about as a baseball player and I will always be fan of your glove and for you bringing back socks worn high...

I often go on about the fact that I root for the name on the front of my jersey but I'm still proud to have your name and number on the back.

Eyechart was the old nickname for Doug Gwosdz

He wasn’t a memorable player though. I wouldn’t have known that if it wasn’t for a hardball times article a few years ago:

It took me a bit of googling to “remember” where I had heard that one before. Anyhow, great nickname, even if it is recycled.

Ahhhhh

So many good memories connected with Dougie. One of the essential figures of my early days as a fan. My sister and I got autographs from him at a game in Oakland, and a pennant commemorating him and Torii as 2001 Gold Glove winners still adorns my bedroom wall.

And am I the only one who feels a rush of satisfaction from the fact that it was he who caught the final out of Boston’s 2004 miracle run? The Curse officially ended with him. Think about it.

It took the left over Twins goodness

to end the curse of the almost as evil Empire… sadly it also marks the start of the obnoxious Red Sux nation…

Bittersweet then

I was extremely happy for the Sox that year and will always cherish that run, it was beyond description what they pulled off…but yeah, it ushered in the era of obnoxious, green-shirt bandwagon jumpers all over. Barely intelligent enough to drawl “saaawwwwwwwxxxxxxxxx,” but wouldn’t know Ted Williams from Rico Petrocelli.
