Glen Perkins Trade Idea
So far this offseason, pretty much every Twins fan has called for trading Glen Perkins. However the only trade scenario mentioned was a trade to the Padres for Kouzmanoff. Since that did not happen, how about another idea? Why not trade Glen Perkins to the Dodgers? It would be a good fit since the Dodgers need young, inexpensive pitching, while Perkins would get to pitch at Dodger Stadium, a known pitchers park. The only question is what would the Twins get in return. Here are some of my suggestions, based on two criteria.
1. They have fill a need for the Twins or be able to fit in the Twins system.
2. It has to be a player the Dodgers would be willing to give up. The Dodgers are most likely going to start relying on younger players within the system since their payroll will be greatly reduced.
With that in mind, here are the two players I feel the Twins could get for Perkins.
1. SS Joe Becker.
The Twins could get him because he is stuck between two other SS prospects. The main purpose for getting him would be to give us some MI talent in the upper levels of the system, while holding the spot down for future MI prospects down the road.
2. RHP Timothy Sexton
This guy would be a very good fit for the Twins. He has very good control (100 K: 34 BB in 157 IP) and he projects to be a groundball pitcher as he has a 1.75 GO/AO. He would probably be a good #4 starter, much like Nick Blackburn.
I know many will think I am not asking for a lot but you have to remember that Perkins has a history of shoulder problems, which will scare suitors off. At this point, any value that Perkins has is based on his potential and his affordability over the next few years.

Sickles
Sexton is a C prospect and Becker is not mentioned. If the Twins can’t get one of a team’s top 10 prospects they should just option Perkins to Rochester.
well if not top 15 prospect.....
Dejuses and Dee Gordon are very good prospects
also Ethan Martin, Josh Lindblom, Aaron Miller to name a few more
there’s no way the Dodgers would trade any of those guys for Perkins straight up though, well maybe DeJesus
Lets go get Adrian Gonzalez..... how do you say holy shit! - ~en espanol ?

Perkins has value in the here and now
In the likelihood that he ends up in the bullpen, he can be a very effective pitcher for one or two innings at a time. His ERA as a reliever is 3.14. If he doesn’t crack the rotation or the bullpen, he won’t lose any value pitching every fifth day in Rochester. Not many teams have two lefthanders, who are a combined 23-13 in the majors, waiting for opportunities in AAA.

You may not have to settle for Perkins
Ivan DeJesus may not be in the Dodgers plans either and he’s a much better prospect. If Glen shows he’s recovered, he’s a established major leaguer who cost is still the MLB min. He’s not going to to featch a A level prospect, but a decent MI could be had.
"I couldn't do that. Could you do that? Why can they do it? Who are those guys?"
I don't know
The last time a guy named Ivan DeJesus got traded, the other team ended up giving up Ryne Sandberg. Bad omen, methinks.

Players that could be aquired
Perkins is pretty valuable as a left-handed pitcher. If he proves himself healthy he should be worth players along the lines of Angel Pagan/Mets; Andy Laroche/Pirates; Justin Maxwell or Willie Harris/Nationals; or Felix Pie/Orioles. You also have to take into account what a trade does to our payroll. Pie,Maxwell, and LaRoche are coming to their arbitration years and are in the 400,000 range. Pagan and Harris each have contracts around 1.5 million. I think the Twins really need that extra outfielder that can play defense and run. Anyone one of these players would be a good fit for the Twins. LaRoche is a bit of a stretch; but who knows maybe the Pirates are wiliing to deal him with Alvarez just about ready. It might take more than Perkins in this case though. LaRoche would look pretty good at 3rd base on our team. Another factor is most of these teams could use a starting along the lines of Perkins. So lets hope if the Twins decide to trade Perkins; we can get somebody to help us this year. If not I think we keep him.

Right on
The Twins don’t have many holes to fill. I think the" Valencia’s not ready yet" was B.S. to let him know he must earn the spot. If they wanted Koz I think the trade would have been made. As far as a back-up for Span, they got Jamer—— what ever his name is and Revere is ready too they don’t want his clock to start yet as is the case with Slama and a few others. If they don’t have to bring them up, they won’t. As stated unless we get a mid-level pro or a top prospect, Perkins in the pen or spot starter is of large value to the Twins. To much pitching is a good thing!

Too many pitchers.
Quite honestly, Perkins could get sent down as he has an option left. You have 5 rotation spots and 6 (possibly 7 in the pen). If you send down Duensing, you still have Baker, Slowey, Pavano, Liriano, Blackburn, Nathan, Crain, Neshek, Condrey, Rausch, Mijares, and Guerrier. That’s 12 right there. Someone’s out. I could see Mijares going down to teach him a lesson, but unless Neshek has a horrible spring or some one gets hurt, my guess is Perkins is the odd one out.

I thought Perkins had an option
If Perkins is the odd one out, then he goes to Rochester until someone gets hurt.

Perkins has an option
He has two chances to make the Twins: fifth starter or long reliever. If he doesn’t win wither battle, he can go down and increase his value in Rochester. Trading him this offseason would be like selling stock after a crash. That’s when you buy. You sell after the stock goes up.
