Spring Roster Updates
Told they'll start at Triple-A: Jacque Jones and Anthony Slama.
Optioned to Triple-A: Matt Tolbert.
Assigned to minor league camp: Danny Lehmann, Ben Revere, and Mike Maroth.
Alexi Casilla seems to have won the final bench spot. There is one open bullpen spot for either Neshek (seems most likely) or Perkins. The backup catcher might go down to the wire.

Mahay, Perkins, Neshek, Condrey, Duensing
Three spots. Assuming no acquisition, two more cuts before the end of spring.

Perk and Mahay are my bets to get optioned
However, there’s a part of me that wants Duensing down at AAA. If he can use what he learned in the bigs and dominate the AAA he could become good trade bait towards the deadline. I don’t think he’s as good as he was last year but maybe with a dominating AAA performance the Twins might be able to sell high on him at the trade deadline.
Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?
I'd guess we'll end up needing him starting.
There’s almost always something wrong with at least 1 of the starters at any given time. And I’m not really of the opinion that the Twins have a vast reserve of MLB-quality starting pitching right now. Duensing then…not pretty, unless someone steps up.
Gardy...
…on Thursday said that if Liriano is the fifth starter, Duensing will be in the bullpen.

Mahay
Does he even have enough time to get into game shape before the season starts? I’m guessing no, so he’ll start the season in AAA.
The way I see it...
- Duensing is a lock because Liriano is in the rotation (Gardy said Duensing would be in the ’pen if Liriano was the 5th starter).
- Condrey is pretty much a lock despite a poor spring. I thought I read something before spring training where Gardy said he would make the team.
- Mahay doesn’t have time to get ready, but will have a shot if successful in Rochester and the Twins need him later on.
- Neshek is the leader for the final bullpen spot, but Perkins’ situation is interesting and hard to read.

Well
Other than considering Anthony Slama for a setup role, this is pretty much expected.
Gardenhire quote
Will this guy’s love of marginal talent middle infielders (just like him) ever end?
From STrib:
It was hard for Gardenhire to give Tolbert the news. "He’s one of my favorite players,‘’ Gardenhire said. "I look at him as a big leaguer. I’ve only got X amount of roster spots, so I had to send him down, but I don’t like it. It’s not one of my favorite things to do."
Tolbert fills Punto’s spot next year. That’s a lock.
This caught my attention as well. I’m sure Tolbert will be up at some point in 2010, but you’re probably right. Tolbert will be the cheaper option to be Gardy’s backup middle infielder next season.

not to mention gettin' after it
And wouldn’t Redmond be catching?
That’s hilarious btw.
LF Jacque Jones
Gardy never liked Lew much, two different personalities. Here’s a better “Gardy’s favorite” lineup
1) Jacque Jones LF (remember leadoff Jacque?)
2) Luis “Louie” Castillo 2B
3) Joey Mauer C
4) Justin “Morny” Morneau 1B
5) Matty LeCroy DH
6) Michael “Cuddy” Cuddyer RF
7) Torii Hunter CF
8) Matty Tolbert 3B
9) Nicky Punto SS
And
Louis Ayala as our starting pitcher.
I love Twins Baseball and Minnesota Vikings Football.

No the Fat guy who threw a 50mph curve
We’d be losing 8-0 in the 3rd and Gardy would leave him in and the anouncers would brag about him eating up innings, while we lose (Hernandez?)
