Really Nice Thesier Article on Delmon

This kid just breaks my heart sometimes. Really encouraging stuff in the article, though, and Kelly got some good quotes from Morneau, too. Here's hoping Delmon has his breakthrough year this year!

Strib article
LEN III had an article on O-dog (or is it dawg?) this morning that mentioned he has taken Delmon and Denard under his wing (and is making them show up at 6 am to lift weights). I hate to get too excited (who am I kidding? I love to get too excited), but with Morneau, Mauer, Kubel, Span, and Cuddyer plus O-dog and Hardy, if we could get some consistency out of Young in the 7 or 8 spot….wow. Yeah, I really can’t wait for games to start.
A variation on the HITBSOHL* article
Another rite of spring, along with pitchers/catchers, Mijares’ visa problems, first full-squad, etc.

True, it's an all-at-once tired and humorous staple of spring.
But still…have you seen pictures of Delmon? It looks like someone stuck his head on a different body.
He has lost weight
Though just assuming that will make him better is dangerous. Adding some plate discipline seems more to the point, as does learning to pull the ball.
I’m rooting for him, though. It’s possible there’s a .300/.340/.480 guy in there somewhere.

well he
is a .300 hitter. If he could just start to light up the first part of the season, I would not be surprised if that average creeps over .300 by seasons end. But, I agree, the power is more what I am looking forward to. Right now, we have only one for sure right handed power bat, Cuddyer. Hardy is still a question mark, so if Delmon and Hardy could reawaken, this will be a very good, very powerful lineup.

It's not just his hitting that was hard to watch, though.
His lumbering around in LF has to be much more tolerable now. Quicker, lighter on his feet.
Or maybe I’m putting far too much hope into this thought.

It’d be nice to see him start to take walks. But I’ll stand by what I’ve said before, which is that if he can just get better at being aggressive…i.e., pitch identification, strike zone judgment…that will make him loads better alone. And it means he doesn’t have to change what kind of a hitter he is.
I got all sniffly reading this.
It’s no secret that I’ve always been in Delmon’s corner, but I think this is full of good signs, regardless of my bias. I hope being focused and in good spirits will finally get him to where he can be. Delmon’s problems have always seemed mental.

I'd also like to say
I’m glad your friend had her baby. Otherwise that kid would be like “Dude, it’s getting cramped in here”.
I think he'll break out this year
He’ll never be a high OBP guy, but if he can hit .300 and slug .450, he’ll be a very good number 7 hitter. I hope he starts moving his legs faster in the outfield. That’s the area he needs to work on more than his hitting, imo.

If he can manage even league average LF defense, I’ll be tempted to stop hating him.
