Around SBN: MLB Trade Deadline: Phils, Astros complete Roy Oswalt deal

Selig's "special committee for on-field matters" is discussing a "floating" realignment plan that would allow teams to willingly change devisions.

The example in the article would be that Cleveland could opt to move to the AL East (re-building mode, not expecting to contend, could use revenue from playing Yanks/BoSox more often) while Tampa could opt to take Cleveland's spot in the AL Central, where it could have a legit chance at a division crown for once.

Based on that example, it doesn't sound like a good thing for the Twins if talented teams start flooding the AL Central hoping for a division crown.

Later on in the article the author lists Mauer among the "very young, talented players who have the potential to be great". Last time I checked, Mauer was about to turn 27 and already great.

WOW.

That is SHOCKINGLY stupid. Seriously. The fact that this scenario exists scares me. This doesn’t solve baseball’s competetive balance issues, IT COMPLICATES THEM. I’m using capital letters because I can’t believe how moronic this idea really is.

Seriously…..WTF.

Just…wow.

Yep and rec'd.

But dude, it’s Bud Selig. I wouldn’t put it past him.

I can't believe Selig is still the commissioner of MLB

He presided over the steroid era (where he and the owners HAD to know what was going on), he pissed off fans when the All-Star game ended in a tie, he tried to contract the Twins who owned the AL Central in the ’00s.

I’m sure there are other egregious examples. Please feel free to list below…

Selig

Should be replaced by Joe Mauer (when he retires as a Twin).

Then all of MLB problems will be solved!!!

Yep there is no love for Selig in any Twin’s Fans heart.

How would they plan?

How do you plan to matchup against your division when you don’t know which teams are in your division? Could teams jump leagues if they want?

I don’t see how this proposal solves the Yankees issue. The only thing that might solve the imbalance would be to pool all local television money.

This makes no sense

Switching Cleveland and Tampa?!?!?

EH? No Comprende Senor!

Wild Card

This would make the competative balance even worse. This would only benefit one team, whichever good team gets out of the AL East on a given year. For the rest of the league, it would make winning the wild card border-line impossible. It comes out of the east almost every year anyways, but this would virtually guarantee it with the Yanks and Sox each playing 18 more games against a team like Cleveland compared to 18 agains a good Tampa Bay team; they would each win 100 games every year

Great Move

I can picture these teams in the AL Central within a few years:

Minnesota
Chicago White Sox
New York Mets
Tampa Bay Rays
Baltimore Orioles
Chicago Cubs
Milwaukee Brewers
Houston Astros
Texas Rangers
Colorado Rockies

The top five teams from this division automatically make the playoffs which makes sure that We would be looking forward to game one of the World Series on Thanksgiving Day.

that would only be the North American Deslow Cup

after that all the teams would go back in and play a round robin tourney and the winner of that would go on to play the winner of Southeast Asian Pacific rim champion…

love me some baseketball
