Resting Morneau
I'm a little surprised that, considering his 2nd half fades and back problems, Morneau isn't getting an occasional break at first base. I truly expected to see Cuddy there at least once by now. It seems that with the deeper bench, we'd be taking advantage of that. Morneau rests, Cuddy plays first, Kubel handles right field and Thome handles the DH role. You also get the added benefit of keeping Thome sharp.
Is it too early in the season to expect this? Be a shame to wait until Justin gets worn out to do it.

Good point
but I don’t think Cuddy will be at 1st this year. I think Harris is the backup, but with Punto injured, it hasn’t been possible to put Harris at 1st.
What happened over the offseason...
…that would make you think that? If Cuddy was the backup at 1B last year while Harris sat on the bench, why would that change now?

i disagree
i think cuddy will be starting at first because he was an above average 1st baseman last year and that way u can just put thome in for morneau with kubel moving to right
Above average?
Really? Was he? This is a serious question, not a criticism. I remember watching, and feeling like he played well, for a guy who isn’t a first baseman.
I don't think he had any errors in September...
He actually looked pretty good, I doubt Harris would be much better.
Better at 1B than in RF
Cuddyer has played a lot of infield. He’s a natural 1B.
Kubel
I remember reading an interview with Gardy where he stated he was getting Kubel reps at 1B during the spring and planned to use him as the speller during the season. It rather surprised me. Wish I could find the interview.
Nonetheless, great point made Dale. Porno certainly needs to be sat down every ouple weeKs. Cuddy would be the ideal sub should Kubel not be ready for it. Maybe Thome gets the nod. ; )

Did Thome
even bring his glove to the Twins?

I agree Justin should be rested more
I disagree that we have a “deeper bench”. We have a really awkward bench. We have no backup OF’s most nights. We have a catcher who probably should be at AAA. We have one bench player who can’t play in the field. It’s harder for Mauer/Morneau to DH this year. We’d ideally sit Justin vs a LHP but then we replace him with a LHB anyway.
It’s just awkward.
It's easier to give guys full rest and field a potent lineup
but much much harder to give players half-rest like Gardenhire likes to do
Let's rest him Sunday
If all goes to plan we’ll win today and lose tomorrow, so let’s have Morneau rest tomorrow. Stick Cuddy in at 1B because it works.
Hughes
Now that Hughes is up, he has played OF in the minors, maybe that could move J-Mo to the bench for a game.
Hughes can play 1B also
There are multiple options for resting Morneau. I don’t think he’s all that tired though, lots of off days lately and he’s seeing the ball well. Gardy likes to give them a break when they are struggling a little or nicked up.
How about this against LH pitcher
Hughes, Span and Delmon in the OF
Harris, Hardy, O’Dawg and Cuddyer in the IF,
Mauer catches.
If only they had kept Ramos up here, he could DH and the Twins could look more RH.

Ramos would have provided a plethora of opportunities
Then they would have 10 hitters who are legitimate all star caliber players.
Morneau being Morneau
