Poem "The Kestrel"
I don't know how many of you have been on the post "The Target Field Kestrel", but over there Robin G posted a comment that gave me the idea to write this poem. It took me about 20 minutes to write this once everything started flowing.
This poem is based on Edgar Allen Poe's narrative poem "The Raven"
Hope you enjoy!
Once upon a game so dreary
as our offense was so weary
the game was dragging on so nearly
slower than before
as the birdies were still hitting
suddenly there came a flitting
up they looked and there was sitting
a kestrel on the right field pole
the Orioles were soon retired
as the Twins fans sat and mired
about a game that had transpired
worse than was hoped for
Quoth the Kestrel
"Hit some more"
the offense still did very little
on the field the rain did piddle
and some fans were in the middle
heading out the door
Quoth the Kestrel
"Hit some more"
there were some fans that were staying
to watch to the Twins keep on playing
most of them were still praying
praying a win one more
Quoth the Kestrel
"Hit some more"
the fans began to watch the bird
because the Twinkies laid a turd
"It caught a moth!" was the word
and feasted above right field floor
fianally the game was done
the Orioles had at last one
there the bird that everyone
had talked about before
was sitting on the pole so lightly
something here that it does nightly
with the lights shining so brightly
yet dimmer than before
Quoth the Kestrel
"Hit some more"

Very well done
Maybe we should call the kestrel Poe.

So impressed
This was very well done.
I’m a big fan of The Raven, and a big fans of the Twins. Now we just need a Simpson’s enactment of the Twins edition of the Raven.
Kestrel poem
I enjoyed this immensely! You are very talented, and funny! Well done.
