Game 75: Twins @ Mets
Minnesota Twins at New York Mets, Jun 27, 2010 1:10 PM EDT
Know Thine Enemy: Amazin' Avenue
Niese got a little roughed up his last time out, pitching well prior to a rain delay but getting nailed afterward. He's a guy that needs the offense to hit the ball to be successful, so as long as the Twins can be smart and disciplined in their approach today they should have their chances.
I'm ready for Scotty B to start pitching like he's capable of pitching. He's probably ready for that, too.

Get that juggernaught from KC next. All right, they swept Atl at home, but who have they played otherwise during their hot streak.

cliff lee and roy oswaldt????
sign lee and roy oswaldtI. we could also find a pitcher named Harvey..Our rotation could be Lee, Harvey and Oswalt. Then all we would need is a Adam Kennedy.at 2nd base!!!!
Lineup is loaded with RH hitters
As loaded as the Twins can do anyway. I suppose they could put Zombie in the outfield for Span…..and have Butera catch…..nah. Hopefully, they score some runs and the good Scott Baker shows up.

Well I suspect that completely confirms the fact that Thome cannot play in the field, period.

Why would anyone think he could play the field?
When was the last time he did that?
"It happened in the moment, and it happened." - Carlos Gomez
Thome
Will not play in the field unless there is an emergency—injured player late in the game—he didn’t take infield practice in the spring and hasn’t played but a few innings in the last five years. He has back and foot issues that make it dicey for him to DH for a stretch of games.

Finally, Delmon's in the 5 hole!!
Expect Repko to get 2 hits today, rbi, run scored

was that Blackburn in the dugout with a stache only?

Don’t resign the guy, then trade a couple minor leaguers for him after you’re basically out of contention (barring some crazy streak).

5th if you count Kubel, but lets not get ahead of ourselves
If he was monumental, he’d have been playing for someone else not in the minors for us.
Another thing they mentioned yesterday

What's with wearing these alternate jerseys instead of the new away jerseys?
I think the new away ones are sweet.

But why do they all want to wear the alternate jerseys? I like those new ones.
"It happened in the moment, and it happened." - Carlos Gomez
Can't we just skip the 4th.
Maybe let the bullpen pitch then bring Bake back in. Didn’t St Louis do that one year? Send the pitcher to a field position then moved him back to pitch after a couple of batters.
I don't think you can do that
or else you could split a game between a lefty and righty starter and just dominate. It’d be worth the offensive and defensive dropoff.
you can do that if you want
it fights, but tolbert the true rubbish, is the son--japanese proverb
Chase Utley is a Nick Punto-type player, but with power--Bert Blyleven
Really?
Why doesn’t anyone ever do that in the playoffs with their 3rd/4th starter if one is a righty and the other is a lefty? I think it’d be worth a try.
where you gonna play your pitcher in the field when he's not pitching?
plus, you’d have two pitchers batting in the lineup, both in the AL and the NL, cuz you couldn’t use the DH with what you’re suggesting

left field probably
forgot about losing the DH though. losing your worst outfielder is less of a big deal than an outfielder and the DH.

not really
its just supposed to not be a weakness
and really the offense is a bigger problem right now
the Twins have put 0 runs on the board today. The offense is supposed to be their strength.
did you know that
The Twins team ERA is 2nd in the AL?
The team isn’t hitting, that’s more of a problem.
Have you watched this team recently?

We have two good pitcherrs and three lousy ones
Why we think we can win with this pitching staff is beyond me.
"You're thinking too much. Just have fun." -- Bennie "The Jet" Rodriguez in Sandlot
You're letting a series of bad starts cloud your judgment
Baker Slowey and even Blackburn aren’t this bad. Our team ERA was 3.84 going into this game. I’m more concerned about the offense.
by matswilander on Jun 27, 2010 3:00 PM EDT up reply actions
Perhaps
I haven’t seen consistency from any of those three pitchers this year. Blackburn has had one good month and two bad ones. Slowey seems to be good every other start at most. Baker is just a mystery. He’s been slightly better than Slowey, but nothing like we expect from him. This rotation needs one more good starter (ahem, Lee).
"You're thinking too much. Just have fun." -- Bennie "The Jet" Rodriguez in Sandlot
I agree
Baker is the most frustrating because his command ratio is elite. I don’t know what’s up with him lately. I’d like another starter to replace Blackburn personally.

All this talk about bad pitching, Yes
but it’s 6-0 Do you think the pitchers are trying to hard because we never score!!!
There is a relationship between bad pitching and bad hitting
If you spend 80% of the game in the field, it makes it really tough to hit. You use most of your energy on defense. If a pitcher gets you back in the dugout quickly, you use most of your energy hitting.
"You're thinking too much. Just have fun." -- Bennie "The Jet" Rodriguez in Sandlot
It's not like we're down 6-0 to start the game!
We could have put up the runs early like last night.

The idea of the 2010 Twins
Was to have enough pitching to go with the best lineup by far in the division. All in all, despite the slides of three starters, the pitching hasn’t been too bad. The lineup hasn’t produced much since the opening month.
