Same Play, Two Very Different Players.
via a323.yahoofs.com
Jayson Werth of the Phillies and Ichiro Suzuki of the Mariners have completely different reactions to a catchable foul ball in the stands.
In Philadelphia, it was in the 12th inning and a foul ball hit out into the right field stands was caught by a fan, robbing Werth and the Phillies of the third out. Werth's reaction was to "ask" the fan to "Next time, get out of the way," according to the announcer.
I'm no lip reader, but I don't think Werth was quite that polite. So the fan and his son get a souvenir ball, a memory of a lifetime, and the opportunity to find another team to root for.
In Seattle, same play, but not as much riding on the play, a young Mariners fan gets a face full of Ichiro's glove. Ichiro checks to make sure she's okay and goes back to the game. Check out her reaction.
She's so thrilled she texts her mom and probably everyone else she knows. Later, the Mariners gave her a bag full of goodies including an autographed baseball and a bobble-head. Of the two teams, I know which one I'd prefer to be a fan of after that.

I was at a game last year
sitting in the third row down the first base line and the exact same thing that happened to Werth happened to Morneau and Morneau had the exact same reaction, including the vocabulary. The fan was quietly led out of the seats by security shortly thereafter.

If it's your favorite team on defense and you're in the first row, don't go after the ball.
It’s that simple, I think. I know the adrenaline gets going, but people need to just let the ball go. Unless it’s going to hit a kid or an older person, let it drop.
Yes, a foul ball is hard to get, but I’d much rather have Morneau (or whoever) catch it for an out rather than me or some other fan catching it. I’d rather get hit in the head with the ball, as long as the player has a chance to catch it without my hands getting in his way. Maybe I’m hardcore or something.
If it’s the opponent on D, than go after that ball as much as you want!

When did this happen?
Seems to me that is very un-Morneau like.

what Pedro
doesnt realize is that the Canadian language is not the same as American. Thus, fuck (which I highly doubt he said) is “nearly had it” in Canadian.

I believe it
was a game against the White Sox started by Glen Perkins. I was even on TV in the background during the foul pop. The batter was retired so there was no damage on that one. I agree that as a home team fan you need to get out of the way. If you don’t think that word is in Morneau’s vocabulary do a little lip reading whenever they show a closeup after a strikeout.

I found two games Perkins started at home against the CWS in 2009
And I couldn’t find any reference to Morneau yelling at a fan. It would be bigger news than Werth doing that. There is a world of difference between getting mad at striking out and yelling at a fan in the stands. I’m not calling you a liar, but unless you can come up with something that says different, I don’t think it happened the way you said it did.

No offense taken or meant on my part.
I just don’t think it happened.
