Around SBN: The Most Dangerous Division in Sports

In Olney's blog this morning, he tracks the second half strength of schedule for the playoff contenders. As you can probably guess by looking at the schedules, the Twins have a much easier path than the Bitchsox (pardon my French) and the Tiggers.

Olney ranks the Tigers as having the 4th most difficult schedule of the contenders, the Sox as having the the 7th most difficult and the Twins as having the 15th toughest (out of 17 "contenders"). Olney notes that "[a]t one point,[the Twins] play 13 straight games against teams with records under .500."

I'll take it.

Awesome

Now lets get out there and do work!

It’s not entirely surprising, though. The Bitchsox can’t keep playing AAA teams all year, right?

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. ~ Terence Mann

It's no coincidence

Look at the June Swoon in detail and step away from the panic button.

Up 4.5 games on the Tigers and 11 games over .500 on Jun 10th. The Twins had a brutal stretch of games. 22 of the next 28 games against teams well over .500.

Atlanta (3) (1st in NL)
Colorado (3) (Wild Card Lead)
Philly (3) ( games on .500)
NYM (3) (7 games on .500)
Detroit (6) (Half game out of first)
Tampa (4) (Wildcard Leader 20 Games over .500)

If they can come back from the break and take 3 of 4 from the Sox they have 3 series in a row against bottom feeders.

Now as for the playoffs………

We still need to beat the good teams...

but yes, the schedule has been heavy our way. It’s time for their turn and hopefully they flop.

Right. It’s not encouraging for a deep run, but the Chicken little meter needs to be adjusted a little.

Then again

We lost a series to the Mariners 3-1, and got swept by the Brewers. But a lighter schedule is a good thing.
