Burning question: Are the Tigers a hated rival
Alright, so I've been considering this for awhile now, and especially after the legendary battle of Game 163 last year, I want to determine once and for all: Are the Detroit Tigers a truly HATED rival, or just a divisional adversary we find ourselves in a tight race with year after year?
I guess it's fairly subjective, but some of the criteria to consider would be public comments and smack talk, on-field scuffles, mutual hatred between the fan bases, intense head-to-head match-ups, and any sort of rivalry between the cities. The White Sox obviously fit all these requirements. So...do the Tigers?
Discuss.

I’d say just a division adversary. Whenever I see a Tigers player, I just hope we beat them. But whenever I see a White Sox player, I get pissed off.
Huh...I'm the opposite.
Miguel Cabrera, Magglio Ordonez, Carlos Guillen, and especially (when he used to be there) Placido Polanco all made me want to punch a baby, but I usually just laugh when I consider the likes of Paul Konerko, Alexei Ramirez, Carlos Quentin, and Mark Buehrle are actually major leaguers.

Division rivalry
although I really hate Miguel Cabrera.

I used to really respect Cabrera for being such a good player. But that changed last year when he got drunk during the playoff run and got into a fight with his wife. No excuse for that, personally or professionally.

I hate whoever we are playing
But that usually dies when we stop playing them
The teams I always hate are:
Yankees
White Sox
Tigers
Indians (every time they’re mentioned I hear that damn drum beat, which really pisses me off)

I just don't have the hate for our AL Central rivals
If we’re scrapping against them for a playoff spot, yes, but remove the Twins from the equation and I’ll root for them to win sometimes (say in the playoffs if the Twins are eliminated). I always hate:
Yankees
Red Sox
Angels
and sort of the Dodgers
I guess it’s just that big-market snootiness.
I like the Angels.
But I cannot stand the ChiSox or Tigers. I don’t know that I could root for either of them to win anything. I have a secret love for the Royals, despite the fact that they employ Billy Butler.
The Pavstache will own you.
reading
reading the SBN Tiger site on occasion (especially when we play the Tigers), I would he they (writers and posters of that site) hate us more than we (as a collective fan base) hate them

That's because
we always win the division.
Yeah,
that’s true of at least the White Sox and Indians also.
don't like the Tigers
But I HATE the White Sox. Maybe it’s b/c I was a young teenager watching Sox telecasts as a Twins fan, going way back to the ’91 divisional race. What an annoying team, annoying fans, annoying broadcasters. The whole organization can suck it.
Especially Mark Buehrle and his stupid-ass buttface.
Super Agreed
One of their Announcers (White Sox) has the most horrific home run call:
“You, can put it on the board, Yes.”
I rather have either Chris Berman or John Sterling call the game instead. Also, I hate the Yankees.
I just threw up in my mouth. Twice.
I hate their broadcasters almost as much as I hate their catcher.
Hawk calls the Twins, Twinkies
the whole YES! and He Gone! stuff is lame and calling the white sox the good guys on the way to break bugs the hell out of me.
this last series at TF he kept complaining that they were not getting the correct amount of time for commercials and that’s why they would come back in the middle of a AB.
Um...
If that bothers you, you may want to reserve some anger for the proprietor of this fine establishment.

oh dear
living in NC, I watch all the Twins games they show here I can find. We get WGN and last weekend there were two in a row. They won them both so that was happy but the announcers were not cool. It was especially satisfying to hear him say at the end of the game how disappointing the loss was for them.
Let's go my team!

I only hate the White Sox and the Yankees
With the Tigers it’s a divisional rivalry.
But like someone else said above, I definitely get the feeling that the rest of the division hates us. I know the Sox, Tigers and Royals SBN pages have a lot of Twins hate. I don’t read the Indians one enough to know.
There’s one guy on BYB who thinks that the Twins must have paid off the umpires, because we get so many good calls… hilarious!

I respect the Tigers, their ownership,
and of course Leeland. The dude is like the old man in Grumpy Old Men, smokes 4 packs of Camels a day, and eats bacon for breakfast lunch and dinner.
I have an unholy and probably sinful white hot loathing for everything about the WhiteSux. The fans lead the charge, followed by the announcers, something called Gordan Beck-ham, and did I mention the knuckle dragging fans?
Euch.
I always loved that one.
I agree with most of what people have said here.
I respect the Tigers. It’s hard not to respect them when they sucked for a few years, not unlike the Twins, and then rebuilt through a couple of smart signings, trades and drafts. They’re a good team.
Mostly I hate the White Sox because of Kenny Williams being a thug, AJ for being a no-necked dick, and because in an annoying number of my experiences with their fanbase they come come off like rabid, angsty teenagers.

Not really on this side
but I think the Twins are for sure a hated rival of the Tigers. Anyone ever read Bless You Boys? Tigers fans hate hate hate the Twins.
Actually, everyone else in the AL Central except for Royals fans seem to hate the Twins as much as just about anyone.
Royals fans hate us too
Even the Royals Review front pagers, who are usually pretty level-headed, get pissed off at the Twins. They go off on a rant any time someone mentions the Twins “playing the game right” or “doing the little things.”

Yeah, the Royals fans seem to hate us too.
I don’t know, the Twins seem so likable to me, even with bias aside. There aren’t drunk wife beaters (anymore…) on the team, and they’re generally publicity-friendly. Eh.
The Pavstache will own you.
I have read a lot of Royals Review stuff
And it seems like their hatred is based on the Twins having success in spite of their small-market status over the past ten years. The same goes for the Indians bloggers on Let’s Go Tribe.
Division Rival
I feel like the Tigers are just a normal division rival, I only dislike them when they’re good. When the Tigers are bad I just don’t care about them (kind of like the Royals), but when the White Sox are bad I still root for them to lose every single game and hope that their sucking continues forever.
I HATE the White Sox, absolutely hate them.
The Tigers are a little annoying but not much. I hate Cabrera, but that’s about it. They’re more just a divisional rival….but White Sox are definitely a hated rival for me.

OZZIE! OZZIE!
I like Ozzie Guillen and that’s about it regarding the White Sox. I like the Cubs, the better of the Chicago’s baseball teams. Plus the Sox’s have the douchbag AJ on their team.
I only HATE the Tigers, Sox, Indians, Royals only when they are good, beat us, and/or impede on our play-off chances.

Same here
Love Ozzie, and he has shown us a lot of respect over the past few years…there are definitely personalities on the team I’m fine with, just not the team (and the fans) itself…

I'm nearly indifferent toward Detroit.
All my hating is used up on the Yanquis. Every time I see Jeter I want to kick a hole through my TV. I have no respect for any current player and am very slow to warm up to past players. I’m still kinda cold about even the stache. It is some consolation though that he took a bunch of their money and sucked big time.
Wsux Vs Tiggers
It seems im in agreement with most everyone the White Sox garner my undying hate while the Tigers (excluding Cabrera O How I HATE HIM and not cause of the drinking) garner my dislike but not absolute hatred. Maybe its because I find the fact that Tigers fans hate us so much more than we do them entertaining and funny, or maybe its just because im far more worried now and in the long run about the White Sox in the divison. Either way Fuck the White Sox, Screw the Tigers.
and
make sweet sweet love the Indians and Royals for multiple easy series per year.

I hate the White Sox
I don’t really hate Detroit. I dislike them most of the time, especially when the Twins are trying to beat them for the division, but when they made the World Series a few years ago, I did root from them over the Cardinals.
The White Sox are a completely different story. I just plain hate them. I rooted against them in their World Series run and will do so till the end. Even if the Twins get sent to another division, I will still hate the White Sox.
Now, if we wanted to expand this and include all the teams, the Yankees would top my poll of most hated because of their success against the Twins and general Yankee-ness. Their fans are just so arrogant, it just irritates me.
IMO
Rooting for the Yankees is like going to Vegas and cheering for the house. It’s just not right. And i am so glad that C-Pav sucked in NY, or else he wouldn’t be our stud-horse. The ’stache ROCKS!!!!

If the Twins are mathematically out o the AL Central, I’d rather have the Tigers win it than the White Sox.
Just A Thought Here
Imagine the Yankees And White Sox playing an important, winner to the playoffs series, and suddenly, a giant sinkhole opens up, swallowing both teams, and several thousand of either team’s a-hole fans…… What a pleasant thought…. makes me feel so much better. I just wanted to share that dream with my TT bretheren and sisteren.

That's more than a thought for me
I have many times envisioned those two meeting in the playoffs, albeit without your glorious fantasy ending. I can honestly say I would not watch a single second of that series because there would be absolutely nothing I could gain from it…one evil would be taken care of, but the other would live to see another day. Not even an AL Central bias could tilt me in favor of the Sux…I could with anyone else (pulled for Detroit against the Yanks in 2006, as well as the Tribe in ’07), but never the South Side Jerks.
