What team do you hate the most?

I was inspired by MarshalltheIrish's FanPost about the Tigers being a hated rival, so I thought it would be fun to spread the hate and see what teams Twins fans hate the most. I do expect there to be a few heads exploding by making you choose between the Yankees and White Sox. You accept the risk by reading the post.

I only included AL teams, and not all of them, because does anyone really get that fired up about the Mariners or Orioles? Or anyone in the NL? I didn't think so.

Also, feel free to share your hate in the comments section. Appropriate topics include that thing that looks like a hamster on Bobby Jenks chin, getting drunk during a playoff run (and the players who do it), players who have pictures of themselves as centaurs, annoying drum beats in Cleveland, anything about the Yankees, former Twin catchers who may or may not play for the White Sox, and anything else that causes you to curse in front of children.

Have fun!

Hate is a bit strong

for me personally. I don’t think I hate any other teams. However, I will say that wins against the Yankees and White Sox are savored at a higher level than are those against other teams.

by GACTwinFan on Jul 26, 2010 1:11 PM EDT reply actions

Agreed

I strongly root against the Yankees, but I don’t have the burning hatred so many do. I think a lot of that is because I started following baseball in the late 80s, when the Yankees were a joke, and when they became good in the late 90s, they did so basically the right way, with a likable cast of homegrown players (Jeter, Rivera, Bernie Williams, etc.). I don’t even mind A-Rod, for that matter.

The White Sox are easily the division rival I like to beat the most – partially because they kept insisting that they were better than the Twins even in the midst of the 2002-2004 division title runs, partially because Hawk Harrelson is annoying. I find Ozzie Guillen immensely entertaining and hope they continue to employ him for life.

I’ve always kind of liked the Royals and Indians, and I’m generally ambivalent about the Tigers, as long as they aren’t in a heated race with the Twins.

Haha.

Who voted for the Royals?

Now that's just mean.

I know they have Billy Butler (and previously, Mark Teahen), but…they’re the Royals. :\

The Pavstache will own you.

Poor Royals

They are bad enough as it is. Now they are hated, too. :P

I actually like them because they have helped us win the division late in the season a few times in the last few years.

by Twins4Life on Jul 26, 2010 2:46 PM EDT up reply actions

remember when the Twins

couldn’t beat The ROYALS!

but yeah, how do you hate the Royals? They even gave it their all and beat the Tigers that one year giving the Twins the division. Although, they also didn’t roll over for the Twins forcing a game 163 for the “good guys”… gawd I hate Hawk Harlson!

Maybe the Royals are deserving of some hate?

Yankees vs White Sox

that’s what it came down to for me and the Yankees won out b/c let’s face it the Twins have shown they can take the Bitch Sox in a school yard brawl…

The Yankees on the other hand cause our boys to play like AA prospects who know their career is almost up.

I really enjoy watching the Twins beat Chicago but the Twins beating the Yankees in the post season… WOW! that would be amazing beyond belief.

I hate three teams

1. Those Damn Yankees. When the Sox play the Yankees I ALWAYS cheer for the Sox. Unless we need the Sox to lose, then I hope for a 50 inning game that the Yankees win 1-0 on a walk-off double play
2. The White Sox
3. Any team that plays the Twins. If you play the Twins I hate you, as simple as that. If you beat the Twins, I really hate you. But once your done playing us I can go back to liking you or being neutral. Or in special cases continuing hating you.

My Favorite teams outside of the Twins are:
1. Mets- Jose Reyes is the reason why I really started following baseball passionately
1A. The Angels
3. Braves

I love Twins Baseball and Minnesota Vikings Football.

Yankees.

Plain and simple. In fact they could throw a blanket over first second and third. I am a bigger football fan than baseball and still the Yankees are my most hated team in all of sports. I started watching a lot of baseball in the mid to late nineties and they were always winning the world series. One of my favorite sports moments is when the Dbacks got to Rivera in the ninth and won the series.
I actually might be the only Twins fan in the world that doesn’t mind the White Sox. In fact if I didn’t root for the Twins I would probably root for the White Sox. Ozzy is a riot. He should do stand up comedy. In this day and age you just don’t find people is his position that are willing to speak their mind and tell you the truth.

That moment in the 2001 World Series

Is still a cherished baseball memory for me to this day. Bonus points for the 2004 ALCS meltdown. Never let a Yankee fan forget it.

Yankees, by far.

I honestly can’t think of any other team that I hate nearly as much. Even the two Chicago teams are likeable in comparison.

White Sox, 100%.

Mostly because we play them much more often each year, and Bobby Jenks. (Side note: I think the WhiteSux fans dislike Jenks as much as we do..)

Were we in the AL East, it would be the Yankees.

I always loved that one.

by FoulJack on Jul 26, 2010 5:27 PM EDT reply actions

They do hate Jenks

I live in a transplant state (New Mexico) and have a lot of ChiSox fans for friends/coworkers. Since moving here, I find it hard to root too much against the Sox, though I did not feel that way when still living in Minny. Plus, those Sox fans are the biggest baseball fans I know here and they have all said they root for the Twins once the Sox are done. Getting them out of that environment of hate in Chicago has done them well.

Oh, and they do hate Jenks…about as much as any fan base in any sport has hated their own. LNP can’t even come close to the level of despicability that Jenks receives.

Hate Hate Hate

For me:

1. The Cubs
This is mostly because of their fans. People say Wrigley is the best place to watch a game—I’ve been there several times. I can attest that it is the best place to NOT watch a game. Most of their fans don’t even know when to cheer. It is like a giant douche factory there. People just show up to the game to drink—they are not baseball fans. Plus, and maybe this is just plain mean, it is more fun and entertaining when they choke. This is because curses are more fun to root for. I also rooted HEAVILY against the Red Sox in 2004. More on that below…

2. The Red Sox
I am probably skewed since I lived in Boston in 2004-05. Other than the fun of cheering for a curse, their fans were gigantic d-bags. They seriously think they are God’s gift to baseball. They would always assume I should root for them because they “aren’t the Yankees”. Well, at least the Yankees are upfront about who they are. The Red Sox think they are somehow the anti-Yankees when, in fact, they are the same damn thing.

3. The White Sox
Hawk Harrelson. Enough said.

Awesome

My vote went to “Other” for rencito’s #1 response above – thanks for reading my mind and typing it out for me!
I think of Wrigley as less of a baseball stadium, and more of a bar with a baseball field somehow incorporated into it. Also how can anyone, I mean ANYONE, cheer for a team that hasn’t been able, and more accurately WILLING, to field a team that can win a championship in over 100 years?!?!?! They don’t need to win, their fans pour money into the club regardless of the product that their management puts out onto the field. It’s terrible, and the fact that they haven’t been demoted to a AAA club really irks me.

I have a friend who's a lifelong Cubs fan

And basically said the same thing about them. Said they’ll never win a championship simply because they draw the fans, make money, and don’t do much else. Sad.

Yankees by far.

I feel the Yankees represent everything that is wrong with the game of baseball. Also half of their fans are people that just like to cheer for front-running teams and would bail after a few losing seasons.

I also dislike the Red Sox because the number of fans increased tenfold since 2004 when it became trendy to like them. The White Sox wrap up the triad of hatred due to reasons already mentioned.

Oh, I hate the Romans (er, Yankees) already

The only people I hate more than the Romans are the farcking Judean People’s Front (er, Chicago White Sox).
