Ben Revere hit in eye, out for year.
Last note from the "New Britain Notes" on the main page.
Here is the only detail given- " It was announced as well that Ben Revere will miss the rest of the season after being hit in the eye, and breaking his eye socket, on Tuesday night. "
Very sad news. After Kirby, anything like this makes me very very nervous.

There is a piece on this also at Startribune.com but my web blocker will not let me get there.
If you google “Ben Revere hit in eye” you will get a news listing, probably with better details.
I always loved that one.
Quotes are not needed
Although they help, there are more articles out there.
This one from Rotoworld talks about Revere’s condition in more detail: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=MLB&id=5150
And here is a piece regarding Kirby Puckett: http://blogs.webmd.com/eye-on-vision/2006/03/kirby-puckett-eye-problem-forecast.html
One thing we should note is that the Kirby’ was actually hit in the cheekbone which broke his jawbone and loosened two teeth.
Is it time to mandate the comically large helmets?
I mean I know it looks like Darth Helmet/Great Gazoo, but if it prevents injuries, I can’t say that I’m against them.

David Wright seems to pull it off
the newer versions look a lot better. they wore them during the ASG.
I would say yes, though I don’t know how much this would have helped getting hit in the eye. Maybe the bill would have been more in the way.

The earflap
They should mandate 2 earflap helmets first. The 2nd earflap keeps the helmet in place so it can absorb the shock instead of transferring it to the head. There are improvements they can make to the helmet so it isn’t so large but almost as effective. MLB should have a minimum force that a helmet can sustain and the manufacturers can test and certify they meet the minimum requirements.
i was wondering about the lack of the second earflap
you’d think there would be a lot of demand for helmet R&D
You'd need a facemask to prevent an injury like Revere's
Or Puckett’s.
