Fun play... not really a botched squeeze

Pitcher wasn’t paying attention to the runner on third at all despite the fact that as a RHP, the runner was right in front of him. Reading the article, his teammates were yelling at the pitcher telling him that the runner was going and he stepped off the rubber and and checked the runner at first base.

“I came set and they said, ‘Step off.’ My initial reaction was that the guy from first was going to second,” Masset said. “I step off and turn around. By the time I looked at third base, that guy was halfway home and I didn’t have a chance to get him.”

Quote from runner:

“It was a squeeze play, but the pitcher wasn’t really looking at me, so I just ran home,” Nelson said. “I’m just running as hard as I possibly can run.”

That's wild.

It takes some nerve to run when you’re standing right in front the pitcher. That’s some good baseball that. Looks like Colorado’s fixin to eat someone’s breakfast this year.

Welcome back Danny V.

I now have a reason to stay glued to the tube whenever Danny is due up.

I want to see them too

You can see one in the Billy Martin clip from the “50 Greatest Twins” series. I remember seeing on the Twins old official site years ago a CD with an audio clip of him stealing home twice in a game, synched with “Let’s Groove” by Earth, WInd, and Fire.

Great links

Joe C. nailed everything with that list. I was talking to my dad about the rotation recently and he suggested Pavano as a game one starter. After awhile wanting Liriano for that position, I’ve changed my mind and want Pavstache too. Not only would his veteran presence make for a good start, but he’s been there before, having gotten a ring with the 2003 Marlins (totally forgot he started the Steve Bartman game!). Also a major agreement on the “stay loose” factor. The expectations of this season, as well as the need to break the first round funk, could get in their heads easily.
