Ryne Sandberg Praises Twins Organization
Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg, a candidate for the Cubs managerial job, had high praise for the way the Twins play baseball... and the feeling is mutual.

"Gardenhire, a master chess-piece mover"
Now if only he could remember which way the pawns were supposed to go….
Nice article!
That’s actually a better story on the Twins than what I usually read in the strib.
Michael Cuddyer, the Twins' "senior 'piranha' "
I would have preferred “Señor Piranha” but Cuddy isn’t Venezuelan.

whoops
Yeah, that didn’t help his credibility any.
I think of piranhas as small, slick-fielding, light-hitting, speedy, hustle players, who while they won’t beat you with the big hit, will nip at your heels with stolen bases, double plays, sacrifice bunts, hit and runs, and all the little things that can add up to beat a team of slow, higher paid, power-hitting, poor-fielding sluggers like…Michael Cuddyer.
Don’t get me wrong, Cuddyer is a true twin, good attitude, plays hard, doesn’t complain, all that. But he’s among the last people on the team I would call a piranha. Might as well call Thome a piranha.
I enjoy the legacies both teams share
Such as playing in ballparks unsuitable for baseball.
Of course, when it comes to unique legacies, the Cubs stand alone in a slightly more dubious category.
The bases were drunk, and I painted the black with my best yakker. But blue squeezed me, and I went full. I came back with my heater, but the stick flares one the other way and chalk flies for two bases. Three earnies! Next thing I know, skipper hooks me and I'm sipping suds with the clubby

Cool
With apologies to the Twins, Sandberg is my favorite athlete of all time (I really started following baseball by watching Cubs games on WGN, and I was the second baseman on my Little League team – Ryno is my only non-Minnesota sports jersey), so I especially enjoyed this article. Thanks for posting it.

Thanks for sharing that Al!
Love Sandberg and this article. Love your writing on BCB as well.
