Justin Morneau Moved to 60-Day Disabled List
We all thought this was going to happen, but it was made official today: Justin Morneau has been moved to the 60-day disabled list.
Moving a player to the 60-day DL removes that player from the 40-man roster, and in this case allows the Twins to add Matt Fox. Additionally, this isn't necessarily the precursor to Justin being shut down, either - he's already been on the disabled list for 55 days, which means he is still eligible to come off the DL prior to season's end.
In the coming weeks, if the Twins decide that Morneau is ready to go, they'll be able to activate him. A decision on how Morneau would be re-added, however, is a bridge we'll have to burn when we get there.

This is what I thought too
But I also read that after August 1, if a player is transferred to the 60-day that he can’t come back until after the postseason. That can’t be right though.
Right
That’s what I figured, and still believe to be true. The Twins wouldn’t have put him on the 60-day if that was the case. I had read somewhere though that after August 1, players transferred to the 60-day cannot play in the postseason. I’m sure this is wrong, but I saw it on some random blog post when I Googled “60-day DL rules”. I am aware of the retroactive thing, I was just wondering if the August 1 rule was true, which I don’t think it is.
The August 1 rule is true
But only if a player is added to the DL after Aug 1 (and not retroactive to an earlier date). Since Justin was added to the DL on July 7, he comes in well before the deadline. As DRF said, moving hi from the 15-day to the 60-day DL is considered a retroactive move. It’s as though he was added to the 60-day DL on July 7.

Thanks for clearing that up
I was getting a little confused and worried. His recovery is an issue enough, wouldn’t want a chance of returning rendered pointless.

Thank you very much
I figured there had to be an additional clause in there or something. Much appreciated.
He can play in the postseason
If he’s served the full 60 days before the start of a postseason series, he’s eligible to play in it.
you never can tell
the hit didn’t seem so bad way back when and now look at where the Twins are with Morneau.
I wish Justin well and that we get to enjoy watching him play soon.
For what it's worth
I was scared to death as soon as I saw it. But I’m really sensitive to head injuries.
