By DFAing him, they risk losing him
I understand the emergency start thing, but this seems a lot like poor roster management.
This might be the best time of year to DFA a guy
Teams are conserving roster spots getting ready for the offseason. If he gets claimed, good for him. He deserves to start for a major league team and he’s not going to get that opportunity for the Twins.

I actually think this is a smart move
He probably would not have been on the 40 man for the future and this allows for more flexibility in the OF or in the case that Morneau actually remains unavailable. Most of the people here probably had not really heard much about Fox as a soon-to-be member of the big league team and even tho he sure had a great and much needed start for us, I don’t see that his future with the Twins has changed since then.
Hopefully he passes through

Losing a guy like Matt Fox, unfortunately, isn't really a move that will make or break a franchise.
He’s a marginal arm that’s Major League ready, because this is about as good as he’s going to get.
I wouldn't have been opposed to someone else,
I just don’t think Fox was a bad choice, either.
Out of curiosity, who else would you have picked before him?
+1
Would also have dfa’d Swarzak before Fox. Expect they think Fox will get thru waivers, then resign him this winter (he will be a 6 year minor league free agent). Expect they are hopeful that Swarzak and Perkins have some trade value over the winter. Fact is they have 44 players on the 40 man roster and need to get down to at least 34 to open spots for players needing to be protected.
That's going to be a mess after the playoffs are over.
I look forward to bantering names on that one.
Really puzzling
De Los Santos would have cleared, Perkins is a clear non-tender.
It's almost movie-like
The young minor leaguer called up after most of the best players have gone down with injury to face probably the toughest lineup in baseball, and pitches what turns out to be a much-needed win.
Thanks Matt!

wham bam thank you mam
To me this is a big black-eye to the FO. Thanks for the great outing, now don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Are you telling me Fox can’t pitch as long relief or spot start and rest a starter. Piss Poor. Move Hughes to the 60 day-DL, dfa Flores(he sucks) or dfa DeLosSantos. I’em still scatching my head over the call ups all year of the AAA pitchers Perkins,Slama,Neshek,Delaney,Fox,Burnett,Manship and no Waldrop who might have done the best.
Yes but,
You have to admite he was treated like a hooker. After his job was done he was shown the door. I think that was weak on the FO. end. It’s not like Fox suck all year either, I was hoping he’d get a real shot this year. There was other options.

Unfortunately
Unfortunately, that’s the way it works. Things in pro sports are very rough for the guys on the edges.

That a little Hard Edged for me Jesse.
I’em a fan, the Twins don’t pay me, so I don’t have to drink the Cool-Aid. Besides, I have a soft spot for the Guy at AAA. Just waiting for that chance to prove they can stay, like Valencia did. For them sending thier Kid(s) to collage and paying for a nice home is one chance away. Some get that chance and some don’t. Minor League players don’t get payed or treated that well. Only the Big leaguers. I know this and feel for the Guys like Martin, Brock P, and Dinkelman. They are great Baseball players who are just missing one little thing, like a strong arm or speed. Yah, I know it’s a business, I just hate to see the FO treate guys like Whores. I’d hope the Twins have more class then that. We’ll see what happens with Neshek and Perkins, two more guys I think the FO is screwing with.

That's fair enough.
I totally get having a soft spot for certain players. And I didn’t mean that to sound as harsh as it did.
It’s just hard to not have this situation arise from time to time, when there are only so many spots to go around. Ideally, I think the front office wants to treat everyone with respect…but it can’t always work that way. It’s unfortunate, but at least Fox isn’t an integral part of this team’s future.
All of those guys you mention are superb ballplayers, 25 times better than me three times over, but chances are that none of them will be more than role players for a very limited amount of time (until they become arbitration eligible and are replaced by younger duplicates).
With Perk, I don’t see the FO messing with him at all. Initially he wasn’t honest about how he felt physically, and now he’s just not good enough to replace anyone we have on the 25-man roster. Neshek is still rusty, and it shows with his stats at AAA. But I’m looking forward to seeing how he pitches now that he’s back with the big league team.
DFAing Fox isn't a bad thing for Fox
He already has the gratitude of the organization and the love of the fanbase. If he isn’t claimed (I doubt he will be), he will be right where he was on Thursday night, but with a one-game big league resume. If he is claimed, it means somebody likes him enough to put him on their 40-man roster. Teams don’t do that with 27-yo guys with one start in the majors unless they think he has a chance to make their team.

At least he has his acting career to go back to
I don’t know how he had time to film Lost and to play in the minors. But I’m pretty sure the baseball player and the actor are the same guy…
so you can run and tell that, run and tell that, run and tell that

But why did he take time for "Speed Racer"?
He’ll have to pitch the winning game of the World Series to make up for that.

I hope he stays, but it was the right move.
