I have a feeling we'll see Revere today

What you just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your entire rambling incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Two things

1) Valencia – that note makes me like the guy even more. He seems to really be enjoying his time with the Twins and he has been huge for us – and the fact that he Wants to play even if not 100% shows it.

2) Neshek – I really hope he has it figured out again. I would love for Pat to be able to contribute for us the next two months!

by twinscrazy_german on Sep 6, 2010 1:27 PM EDT reply actions

Hells yeah!

I hope Neshek’s really back. Too bad about Jacque though.

What's our rotation looking like right now?

Is it Liriano, Stache, Slowey, Duenslinger, Blackbeard? I’ve been following the Vikes and unhealthy amount the last couple days and am a little out of it.

Yes, and Baker back soon

The Twins have never faced O’Sullivan. Except for Jimmers, who has a home run against him.

Gordo is having trouble with the balls and strikes.

by Brady Eyestone on Sep 6, 2010 2:16 PM EDT reply actions

Ugh.

UGH. We do NOT need Hawk Harrelson light. UGH.

Sorry, but I feel strongly about this.

Go Twins!

I don’t get why people like Dibble.

He's been around for a while

Prospectus has like him for the last couple of years..not sure why they’ve dragged their feet on calling him up. He absolutely raked in AA-AAA the last couple of years.

by bbeeck on Sep 6, 2010 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Not really

His AA-AAA season (age 24) in 2008 he hit .315/.456/.628 with 37 homers (!). That earned him exactly 21 big-league at-bats in which he did well, hitting .286/.375/.429. Of course, being the Royals, he didn’t get called up at all until 2009, and spent most of this year in AAA, too.

by bbeeck on Sep 6, 2010 2:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Weird

I would like that to be the injury replacement of Morneau

by twinscrazy_german on Sep 6, 2010 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe they've invested more in Butler

He’s been getting the starts at first.

by Anelle on Sep 6, 2010 2:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, but

the problem is the money they invested in Jose Guillen. They realized quickly he can only DH, and then they have to play Butler at first. Next year, they’ll DH Butler (he’s a butcher at first) and play Kia at first. Or at least, that’s what makes sense. So maybe it won’t happen….

by bbeeck on Sep 6, 2010 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Come on Danny! tolbert :(

by Codypc21 on Sep 6, 2010 2:44 PM EDT reply actions

Tolbert Triple?

Yes plz.

I always loved that one.

by FoulJack on Sep 6, 2010 2:45 PM EDT reply actions

At least it was a strike

There was a recent article about how he’s been trying to swing at more first pitches because he found himself behind in the count too often.

by DavidRF on Sep 6, 2010 2:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Against most pitchers occasionally swinging at the first pitch is a good idea

because it is often your best bet to be a good pitch. Remember the Redsox a few years ago making a killing on hitting 1st pitch strikes?

by Codypc21 on Sep 6, 2010 2:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Its an interesting game of expectations... keeping pitchers honest

Mauer is notorious for watching the first pitch go by but he’ll punish the pitcher if they just toss up a meatball thinking he won’t swing. His “First Pitch” split is excellent throughout his career. This year, its .536/.536/.929.

by DavidRF on Sep 6, 2010 3:06 PM EDT up reply actions

It really makes sense that guys would have a good first pitch average

because a high percentage of first pitches are center of the zone fastballs.

by Codypc21 on Sep 6, 2010 3:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Span’s just trying to adjust. Swinging at that first pitch was only stupid because of how wild O’Sullivan has been in this game.

by Brady Eyestone on Sep 6, 2010 2:55 PM EDT reply actions

It was a fine at-bat

He got an RBI, and we’re on the board. Wish we could have done more, but it is what it is, and it was a productive at-bat. That’s all. I don’t understand beating this into the ground anymore than it already has been.

by bbeeck on Sep 6, 2010 3:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Just when I look at the Tolbert AB in gameday I see only 1 ball clearly out of the zone

Tolbert worked three balls. Two of the other pitches called balls were on the white line. The first-pitch strike was belt-high. The ball he ended up hitting for the SF was a meatball right down the middle. I don’t see how he could have gotten a bb there. He wasn’t swinging at junk out of the zone.

by DavidRF on Sep 6, 2010 3:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Pavano's wife.

I wish they would cut back to the booth more often, she’s more interesting (read: cute) than what’s going on on the field.

by PRegiment on Sep 6, 2010 3:15 PM EDT reply actions

Either way.

It sounds like the Pavano’s really like it here in Minnesota, living on a lake and such, maybe that’ll be incentive enough to keep him around another year, I’d be happy about that!

by PRegiment on Sep 6, 2010 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Agree with that.

I’d rather watch him pitch, than her in the booth

by Anelle on Sep 6, 2010 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions

If the Twins are going to gain ground on the Sox

they are going to have to do it themselves. Everyone else doesn’t seem to care.

by Drat on Sep 6, 2010 3:15 PM EDT reply actions

Eh...

Nothing you can do with the dribbler down the line and he threw some good pitcher’s pitches on that walk that didn’t get a swing. Wasn’t a great inning but I don’t think it was that bad.

by PRegiment on Sep 6, 2010 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions

white sux

if they sweep or get 2 in det they enjoy a big homestand i think theyll have like 16 at home compared to our 8 after this series, gonna be fun!

by mr mpls on Sep 6, 2010 3:20 PM EDT reply actions

4 games in det

so you mean get 3 or sweep.

At some point the WSox are going to stop coming back on teams. they aren’t blowing anyone out. then they will start losing some games again.

by JonathanR on Sep 6, 2010 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions

whew!

I thought delmon was going to work another walk for a second there.

by Codypc21 on Sep 6, 2010 3:26 PM EDT reply actions

I was about to write that

That couldn’t have been good for his stats

by twinscrazy_german on Sep 6, 2010 3:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Too many crappy grounders to 2nd.

by John_Locke on Sep 6, 2010 3:32 PM EDT reply actions

O'Sullivan pitch count

is getting up there, too. Mid ’80’s after only twelve outs. I’ll take a 4 inning game between our rested bullpen and theirs. I think.

by MCA1 on Sep 6, 2010 3:35 PM EDT reply actions

or mid-'70's

nice number-reading comprehension on my part. Oh, well.

by MCA1 on Sep 6, 2010 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Let's go, Tigers

I know you don’t like us these days, but show some self-respect when playing the White Sox, okay? Unlike the BoSox, who puked up all over the place?

by MCA1 on Sep 6, 2010 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Rochester loses 16-1

Toby Gardenhire pitched 2/3 of an inning, gave up 3 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K. Rochester has nobody left. Justin Turner went 6-6 and hit for the cycle for the Bison. Wow.

If you replace tolbear with valencia,

everyone in our lineup today could be 1st or 2nd highest batting average on the mariners.

Nice catch, Kubes

I think Kubel and Delmon read the article on here about our OF defense sucking.

He’s gotta be in there somewhere.

by TwinkieinHawaii on Sep 6, 2010 4:35 PM EDT up reply actions

I was careful not to phrase it in the form of a "call"

Our LHB’s had been stymied by LHP’s of late. I was just curious why they weren’t jumping on an RHP with an ERA over 5

don’t like it when umps seem to be making the call based on if the ball beats the runner
