Twinkie Town 2011 Top 50...Prospect #33!
Sorry for being a bit late, sometimes its tougher keeping a schedule when on vacation.
Our Thirty-Second ranked prospect this year is a seventeen year old shortstop, Jorge Polanco, who collected 52 of the 167 votes (31%) cast. Rob Delaney was a distant second with 28 votes.
Today we will add a big first baseman who was signed as a free agent out of Puerto Rico in 2009. Kennys Vargas was arguably the top hitter on last year's GCL Twins, where he hit .324/.388/.507 with three home runs, fifteen doubles and 26 runs batted in. Vargas will likely report to the Elizabethton Twins this year as a twenty year old who is capable of having a season that will put him on the Twins radar moving forward.
This round will remain open until noon, Thursday, January 20th.

Hard to decide between Pugh and Rams
I think catchers get underrated because the bar is lower for their bat to make the majors. I think Pugh has a live arm but a 4 ERA in Ft. Myers isn’t impressive.
Rams again
Baseball reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.-Terence Mann/James Earl Jones in FoD
Pugh
It amazes me that he’s not ranked higher.

Really?
He had an awful season in Ft. Myers and ended the season by crapping the bed in AA.
He had a great first half
He was said in several scouting reports to be the best pitcher in FM not named Hendriks. Then he got hurt, and when he returned, he struggled for whatever reason. He’d easily be a top 20 prospect if he’d continued to pitch as he did early in the year, especially since he throws harder than most starting prospects in the system.

And I wouldn't characterize his numbers as "terrible" even with the injury
106 Ks in 102 innings with only 81 hits, he definitely has some stuff. He’s probably a reliever, along the lines of Jacobson, which reminds me, why isn’t he on the board yet?

He was
but didn’t recieve enough votes to stick around. But I agree he should be on now, and probably higher on the list.
I'm not as high on him...
a couple of the Vandy baseball people I know have told me that he’s “just a guy”.
Hard to disagree given the numbers at his level/age.
Singleton for me
Then Ortiz, Rams, Pugh.
I do like the addition of Vargas. He is one of the lesser-known guys to really watch this season.
Jacobson
should be on the list. I hear the complaints about his age. But the fact your missing is that 2010 was his second full season in professional ball as well as his first full season with a new organization. He pitched at 23 in HI-A, not rookie ball. Has preformed well at each stop.
Best available from Sickels
17) Nate Roberts
21) Bruce Pugh
Others: Bashore, Beresford, Darnell, Matt Hauser, Ibarra, Lobanov, Pinto, Tyler Robertson
I like Nate Roberts, Bashore and Jacobson better than anyone but Rams, Lanigan and Pugh.
Best available from Seth
19 – Daniel Ortiz
20 – Lanigan
25 – Pugh
Also Martire Garcia on his list and not on ours
Martire Garcia
I can’t get enthusiastic about a pitcher who walks 5 per 9. Might as well be Shooter Hunt.
My sleeper pick
Cesar Ciurcina – great K/BB ratios and really young
