Twinkie Town 2011 Top 50...Prospect #34!
We finally selected a catcher when Danny Rams beat out Rob Delaney by five votes as our Prospect #33. Rams had 35 votes (24%), while Bruce Pugh was a distant third.
Miguel Munoz received only two votes and will be dropped from the next round. Added will be one of the top young relievers in the organization who was my ninth ranked pitcher, Jose Gonzalez. Also added will be Beloit middle infielder James Beresford.
Gonzalez is a 20 year old lefty who spent the majority of his year in Elizabethton where he appeared in 18 games (22.0 innings) with a 0.41 ERA (yes, he allowed only one run) and a 0.64 WHIP with 33 strikeouts (13.5K/9 innings) and 6 walks. Gonzalez also had a stint with the Ft. Myers Miracle where he had a 1.17 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in eight appearances (15.1 innings) with 10 strikeouts and only one walk. Beresford joined the Perth Heat after the first of the year and has been on fire, hitting .487/.524/.641 in 39 at bats. Beresford, who celebrated his 22nd birthday yesterday, hit .297/.349/.363 in Beloit where he was named the Snappers 'Player of the Year.'
This round will remain open until noon, Friday, January 21st. Please continue letting us know why you voted for who you did and who you would like to see in future rounds.

Love Beresford
Have heard good things about him—make up wise. Maybe a Pedroia type?
ZERO- power
unless he put on some size he’ll be a back-up.

I was going to say
I rate De Los Santos ahead of him. They have similar defensive ability, but Beresford was marginal in his second year in Beloit.

The people in Beloit didn't think he was marginal...
…they selected him their Player of the Year. Not Hicks, Not Rams, Not Hidalgo, but Beresford. He must have done something good.
Just checking in to say that I stopped voting about 10 prospects ago,
but hope to feel knowledgeable enough next year to push my voting into the 30s and still have some idea what I’m talking about. It was fun.
haha
Got me beat. I stopped voting after about 10. Still enjoy reading and learning about these guys though…
Going with Ortiz
But PLEASE bring back Brett Jacobsen
its basically all we have left form the giveaway that was Johan Santana
He and Hoey and Guerra too I suppose
I called it - Joe Mauer's first career Home-Run at Target Field !!!

how is Delaney getting so many votes?
does he have family on here or something?
I think he's better known than many of the remaining prospects
I feel like last season, Slama and Delaney got a lot of discussion here during the time period where both of them were putting up really low ERAs. You could casually follow Roger’s posts and still know who they are. A lot of the other guys left are in the low minors and don’t have the same name recognition.
This was a triumph
I'm making a note here - huge success

The guy is on the 40 man roster. I guess that counts for something

ya, but only because he has to be...
and he’s probably be the first guy to go if a move was made at this point.
the chances of him contributing to the twins bullpen are fairly minimal at this point, IMO. there are about 10 arms ahead of him there.
How is Slama a top 20 prospect?
I rate them both in the 40s, but, as someone said, they are well known.
