If there’s one thing White Sox fans hate, it’s a fair fight. (Although basic hygiene is pretty low on their list too...) But we just might have one on our hands at third base this year.
Our guy—Danny “Hide Your Daughters” Valencia:
6’2’’, 210. Career minor-league numbers: .298/.353/.469
Their guy—Brent “Don’t Call Me Brett!” Morel
6’2’’, 220. Career minor-league numbers: .305/.354/.464
Based on Kevin Goldstein’s prospect profiles, both are gap hitters who will probably hit about 15 homers a year. Both have good arms and should turn in good defense at third base. Neither is fast. Both have made top 100 lists, but don’t necessarily look like stars in the making. Both have had a taste of the bigs and should be relied on to hold down the hot corner for a playoff contender. Brent’s a little younger. Danny has already turned in some success at MLB.
Just something to watch this year as these two careers get off the ground. You know, in the off chance that the snow ever melts and spring actually comes.
