This part of the off season is pretty slow, the whole off season has been slow for the Twins, but while skimming MLBtraderumors.com I found this fun post http://laangelsinsider.com/Blogs/452/Is-It-Time-To-Rebuild-Aging-and-Expensive-Roster. It is a post written by Eric Denton of LAAngelsInsiders.com talking about if the Angels would be better served by rebuilding and putting "some long term pieces in place for the Mike Trout era." Obviously it is just fun speculation and there is no indication of the Angels FO acutally doing this but if they actually did we could line up pretty nice with them.
He brings up the names of Torii Hunter, Jered Weaver, and Ervin Santana to name a few players who they could get value for. If the Angels ate a chuck of Hunter's contract who wouldn't want to see him in our outfield? Also, if you add Weaver or Santana to our pitching staff we could have one of the best staffs in baseball. Liriano, Santana/Weaver, Pavano(I know I'm the king of anti-Pavano club but if you put him in the 3 spot I'm happy), Baker, Slowey/Duensing/Blackburn with Gibson in the wings.
I know all of these players not only would cost in prospects/none of them are cheap, but with $30M coming off the books next year/all these players could be free agents by 2012 why not? Think about what the Twins marketing could do with them bringing back Hunter. I sure as heck know I would buy a Torii Hunter Jersey if he came back.
Also, for those of you who watched Hot Stove on MLB Network today a few of the guys on the show were talking about if the Matt Garza trade could be a precursor to a B.J. Upton trade. I know I'm not the only person on this site on the lets get someone who is actually a plus outfielder in our outfield. Once again this is just speculation on their part but maybe a change of scenery could make all the difference in the world. Hell, it couldn't hurt could it?
I know the sources don't have a ton of value but if it is on the interweb then it has to be post worthy right?....... Right?
