It just doesn't matter/ Don't blame Twins FO
Most Twins fans are all up in the air about what the front office is doing this off-serason. Don't worry. If Mauer,Morneau, and Span play up to what they are capable of and Liriano, Pavano, and Baker pitch like they did in 2010 the Twins are an 85-plus win team in 2012. A division title is with-in reach if all of that happens. Not likely but why spend money on marginal improvements that won't matter if your stars don't perform. An age old adage is youth is always served. The Twins have imo done the right moves with-out breaking the bank. Maybe adding a starter and keeping payroll under 105M is in the works. I hope they don't trade any prospects for worn-out veterans or sign any ridiculous long-term contracts for alot of money. We aren't going to win in the next 2-3 years unless the six players mentioned play up to what they are getting paid. We just have to believe in our young players in the minors and hope for the best. History proves that the winning Twins teams from the past were almost all built from with-in and not by signing over-priced FA's to ridiculos contracts. My motto for any competition is think positive, have patience, and be persistent. Let your young players develop is the best winning formula available. The Twins have always been pretty good at developing talent and I hope they don't get away from that even though they have more resources available to them now. 2012 will depend on Mauer,Morneau, Span, Liriano, Pavano, Baker. It doesn't matter what the FO does if these players don't perform.

I think there's definitely room for optimism with this club.
After the train wreck of this last year, it’s easy to be pessimistic.
Getting another (good) starter, and finding a bullpen arm (or two would be better) should still be a priority. But yeah, if everything bounces right (stars perform, peripheral players contribute, bullpen isn’t in shambles) this team might win 85 games as-is.
I'm not really concerned Mauer won't be ready
I believe Mauer could return to his 2010 numbers or better. Who knows?
Morneau and Span are more pressing concerns for me.
I think best-case scenario (Mauer, Morneau, Span, Baker, Liriano rebound… healthy…etc) this is an 83-87 win team.

And
Eighty-Three to 87 wins might be enough to win the Division in 2012. The White Sox are in decline, the Tigers are a year older, and who knows about Cleveland or Kansas City. At the very best, I can see the current team being assembled playing Kansas City in a game 163 while pushing the “opening round” back one day.
I'm a proud fan of the Minnesota Twins and Dallas Cowboys!

I would like to see Dallas vs the Giants on Thanksgiving, Make it happen NFL!
I'd really like to be better than "good shot at getting in the playoffs" ...
I say that fully recognizing that going from “losing 99 in a season” to “being a real threat in the playoffs” is a huge leap …. still, “get there & get swept by the Yankees” isn’t going to cut it.
