How much do you want Kubs?
That's it. If bored, please attempt to answer the question in contractual terms; how much do you what Kubel to remain a Twin? How much money? How many years? Options? How does the draft pick color your speculated price? If you what to you can comment on what he will be doing if they sign him. Or, why they shouldn't sign him and who is going to replace his bat (not so much his glove). What is Jason Kubel worth to the Twins (if you were the GM)?

Kubs take your pick
7M for 1yr or
11M for 2yr with a 3yr for 7M if he meets incentives; AB’s, BA, and some power stat.
I say two years and 14 million plus an option
You can get creative on incentives and let the option vest if he hits his numbers.

you pretty much hit what he got
2/15 plus an option is what is being reported.

I'd do up to around $8M on 1 year,
$14M on 2 years,
somewhere along those lines. And that’s not just him in a vacuum; for instance, I would have paid Kubel more than we paid Willingham before we signed him. But now, based on team needs and the pick, we shouldn’t pay TOO much since we have a lot of OF options coming. Plus, the #43 pick in the draft (that’s my projection) is nothing to sneeze at. And there are other options (Lee, etc.) that won’t require the 2-3 year commitments.
to clarify...
I’m in favor of re-signing Kubel at the right price….
but I was much more in favor of it before we signed Willingham than after.
you would have paid Kubel more than Willingham?
can you clarify that part a little more. Years too?
obviously not market-wise, but as i've stated many times...
i believe kubel will provide more production than willingham over the next 3 years.
The problem with kubs
Sure, they’re all cute and fuzzy at first, but they get big and turn into adult bears. Every time someone’s picanic basket is missing or a tent gets shredded, they’re going to blame you and your bears.

tacking on to Gleeman's latest, found here:
http://aarongleeman.com/2011/12/19/reassessing-the-twins-roster-and-payroll/
If the payroll does remain steady at $115M or so (I still think it could), that puts us at $96M today (including Nathan’s $2M buyout), needing to upgrade one offensive spot (essentially swapping out Butera for Doumit on the bench), one starting spot (at least) and 1 RH spot, at least. That’s $19M to play with if payroll is at around $115M. If so, I’d:
Sign Kubel for $7M/yr deal if possible (or Lee/Beltran/other options for similar money) $12M left.
Sign Edwin Jackson for 3 year/$30M deal if possible. $2M left.
Trade Blackburn for a decent NL reliever; may have to pick up some salary; save $2M. $4M left.
Sign another starter (Pineiro/Harden/Maholm, etc.) to a $4M deal. $0 balance.
Team set:
Span-CF, Carroll-SS, Mauer-C, Morneau-1b, Willingham-RF, Kubel-DH, Valencia-3b, Casilla-2b, Revere-LF Bench: Doumit, Plouffe, Hughes, Nishioka
(I’d play Doumit instead of Revere as much as possible)
Rotation: Liriano, Baker, Jackson, Pavano, Harden/Francis/Maholm
Bullpen: Capps, Perkins, Duensing, new NL reliever from Blackburn deal, Swarzak, Doyle, Burnett
Depth at AAA; Offense: Benson, Parmelee, Tosoni, Dinkelman
Offensive (to us fans): Butera
Pitching: Gutierrez, Guerra, Waldrop, Gray, Burton, Oliveros, Manship, Hendriks, Malone, Vasquez, Diamond
Not bad
Not too bad Skillz. But I don’t think the Twins signed Doumit to be a bench guy. You know Gardy needs his 3rd catcher.
I completely agree with you about playing Doumit more than Revere. So much, in fact, that if we sign Kubel (longshot….don’t think he wants to hit in Target Field anymore….he’s psyched out), we should trade Revere away with a top prospect like Sano to shoot for an ace SP. I’m sick of us holding onto prospects that never pan out. The latest is Hicks. Not a good sign when you go from a sure-fire #1 organizational prospect to quickly falling to the lower Top 10 in the org within the span of a year or two. If we traded Hicks a year and a half ago, we could have used him as a centerpiece in a deal to get a top SP. Now he’d just be a throw-in.

Don't give up on Aaron Hicks.
He might not be the Justin Upton-type player we were hoping for, but if his power doesn’t pan out to much more than 15-20 homers a year, he could still be a very valuable asset for us or another team. Maybe we’re just impatient with his progress- he turned 22 in October.
We were just as impatient with Joe Benson, until he got it going. Hicks>>>Benson in upside.

Also...
I do not trust Gardy to use Revere as a bench player. Gotta get rid of Revere (if Gardy’s not going anywhere).
Also holding out hope TR finds some other solution than Butera as Gardy’s 3rd catcher. I knew that was the downside of the Doumit signing. Gardy and the Twins barely acknowledge Doumit as a C. It guaranteed Butera a spot on this team.

Agree on Revere and Butera...
do not agree on Hicks/Sano. I’m still extremely high on both and think both will be stars.
Yup
I just saw that. Bummer. Can’t blame him. He’ll hit 35-40 HR there and OPS 900.

Ben Revere
How often will I want to punch the TV hearing Dick & Bert tell me what a great player Ben Revere is? I’d like to sign one more outfielder to force this slappy to AAA, the bench, or into a trade.

35 HRs?
I’ll take the under….. but still will likely come closer to 2009

Draft thread updated...
I still project the Twins to receive the #43 pick in the draft as compensation for Kubel.
Their compensation would currently sit at #40, but I still expect both Madson and Fielder to sign elsewhere (and not within the top 10) so that would push our slot down 3 spots.
also, cmath...
fully in favor of derek lee now.
I would have done 2 year offer of 13Million
thats 6.5M per year, congrats Kubel good luck in Arizona with that 7.5MM per yr. deal.
As much as i wanted him back, thats a bit too steep to pay for the situation Twins in.

would have been nice...
to have him and saito both (and the same pick position) for just $3.5M than we’re paying freaking Matt Capps.
I never want Kubs
And certainly not on the Twins.
On the other hand, TC does need some competition to keep him sharp…

Now that he’s gone, I’d make a run at Cody Ross. He’s not a sexy name by any means, but he’s a solid player.
