Twinkie Town 2011 Top 50...Prospect #41!

With 28% of the 181 votes cast (52), Tyler Robertson takes the Fortieth spot in this year's ranking. Bobby Lanigan was second with 39 votes with Nate Roberts a strong third.

We now move into the final stage of this years poll and will begin removing approximately half of the players from each round. Today we will eliminate six who all had seven or less votes. We also will no longer keep players for at least two rounds as we have been doing.

The players added to the next round are pitchers Cesar Ciurcina, Matt Bashore, Brad Tippett and Andrei Lobanov. Also added are corner infielder Rory Rhodes and Evan Bigley.

Ciurcina had an outstanding relief appearance for Aragua in game three of the Venezuelan finals last week. That performance earned him the start in game seven. It didn't go well, but a young pitcher with only GCL experience starting game seven against players that are mostly AAA players, many with some major league experience, is a testimony to what Aragua's manager feels about Ciurcina. Bashore was a 2009 first round pick who hasn't pitched more than a few innings since being signed. Tippett is an Australian who has pitched very well when healthy, however, just hasn't been healthy much of the time. Lobanov is known for putting up incredible numbers, including 35 strikeouts in 22.0 innings in the GCL in 2009 and a 2.03 ERA with 22 strikeouts and 5 walks in 26.2 innings at Ft. Myers as a 20 year old last year.

Rory Rhodes is a tall (6'7") corner infielder known for having incredible power. After hitting .319/.410/.407 in the GCL last summer, Rhodes hit .279/.362/.514 in 111 at bats with five home runs this winter for Brisbane in the Aussie Winter League. Evan Bigley is a corner outfielder who hit .336/.356/.540 in 113 at bats for New Britain last year after beginning in Ft. Myers where he hit .262/.294/.348.

We will continue dropping approximately half for all future rounds so that many more of the players in the organization will get exposed to our voting. Thus, it is more important than ever to leave comments as to who you would like to see added. This round will remain open through Noon, Wednesday, February 2nd.
