Twinkie Town 2011 Top 50...Prospect #43!

Evan Bigley collected 66 of the 195 votes (33%) to be selected as our Forty-Second ranked prospect. Nate Roberts was second with 44 votes while Matt Bashore was third with 26. Andrei Lobanov, Martire Garcia, Lance Ray and Blayne Weller all collected less than ten votes and will be dropped from the next round.

We will bring back Jose Gonzalez and Michael McCardell along with newcomers Edgar Ibarra, Derek McCallum and Jair Fernandez. Gonzalez, who is 20 years old, put up incredible numbers last year at Elizabethton and Ft. Myers with a 0.72 ERA, 0.72 WHIP, 43 strikeouts and only 7 walks in 37.1 innings. McCardell had a disappointing season in New Britain after a good first stop at AA late in the 2009 season. McCardell led the Rock Cats in innings (150.0), while winning only three of sixteen decisions with a 5.28 ERA.

Derek McCallum is a former Gopher who had a solid rookie season at Elizabethton after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2009 draft. McCallum's 2010 season is one he would like to forget, mostly because injuries limited him to only 47 games. When he did play, he was battling injuries and hit only .228/.323/.296. Edgar Ibarra pitched the second most innings for the Snappers, 112.1, with a 4.81 ERA, 122 strikeouts and 60 walks. Jair Fernandez was traded to the Twins by Seattle a few years ago as compensation when the Twins allowed the Mariners to keep Rule 5 pick, R. A. Dickey. After battling injuries in 2009, Fernandez may have become the second best catcher in the organization last year. Although he had stops in Ft. Myers and Rochester, he spent most of the season in New Britain where he hit .267/.326/.409 in 176 at bats.

This round will remain open through Noon, Friday, February 4, 2010. Please continue to let me know who you would like to see added to these last few rounds.
