Well, it looks like there is no Sweet Drew/Pavstache romance after all...
Put another strike against Gardenhire; apparently he's been lying to us all along. Uggh.
So it looks like:
1) There's no reason for Drew being Pavano's "personal" catcher.
2) Mauer sitting instead of DH'ing is not what Mauer wants.
3) Gardenhire is a moron. In other, related news; the world is not flat.
Also, how did he think that word of this would never get out?

This all seems pretty typical – hometown sports editorialist complains about something to stay in the good graces of the local fans, and the stories representing the club themselves give more arguments for the way the manager sets it up. The one stat missing from Souhan’s and present in the Twins’ article? Mauer threw out 2 of 20 would-be base stealers while working with Pavano, but Butera got 6 of 19.
Yeah, yeah – small sample size, different opponents mean different situations, all that…but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.
All in all, I would also certainly expect to see #7 in the lineup somewhere for the home opener.
Also, in respect to Pavano’s comment about not having a preference – this guy isn’t an idiot (anymore), how do you think he’d look if he’d thrown the hometown here, batting champ, MVP, franchise player under the bus? This was the only safe move for him. Any other type of comment puts the scrutiny on him from every possible angle. Apparently now he’s just put the scrutiny on the manager instead.

It's more about the total BS...
of Butera being Pavano’s “personal” catcher. Mauer is obviously 100x the player that DruBu is. Drew shouldn’t even be in the majors, period.
It’s more lies that Gardy has spewed, and I’m glad the players essentially called him out on it.
I don't think
Pavano cares about who is behind the plate for the Twins. All he cares about is being the best pitcher he can be.
