This statistic came to my attention this morning:
There are 140 NL pitchers who have an At-Bat.
The hitting stats for those 140 pitchers are:
AB: 1706
Hits: 227
BA: .133
The hitting stats for Drew Butera:
AB: 98
Hits: 13
BA: .133
So, even with the recent offensive surge, what sort of insane defensive statistics might Drew need in order to accrue a WAR of +1? Just curious (his WAR is currently -0.5, btw).
Nice to see he's got a ways to go before he hits Tom Nieto's -0.9 WAR for the 1988 Twins ... going for 4-for-60 will do that to you.
