Earlier today, when talking about the trade for Jeff Keppinger, GM Brian Sabean referred to "something bigger" that he was working to complete.
I can’t be sure he was referring to Twins outfielder Michael Cuddyer, but I’m told that the Giants recently expressed interest in him with an eye toward playing him at second base.
Cuddyer has played 13 games at second base this season and Giants scouts felt he was serviceable at the position. But the Twins had a steep asking price and so Sabean revisited the Astros because Bruce Bochy needed immediate help and he knew he could close the Keppinger deal with a phone call.
With Sabean still determined to upgrade the offense and "lengthen the lineup," I wouldn’t rule out the Giants revisiting Cuddyer in the next 10 days. Whether the Twins adjust the price is another matter.

If the Giants want Cuddyer
Then we better have 1st Baseman Brandon Belt.
I'm a proud fan of the Minnesota Twins and Dallas Cowboys!

Since he's a type A FA
if the Twins let him go, he’d be worth two picks so they must be asking for more than that in return now. Giants have a lot of pitching. Wonder if Wheeler or Bumgrinder’s (sp) names are being mentioned by us.
We wouldn't get any draft picks for Cuddyer.
We won’t offer arbitration because there is no way he wouldn’t accept.

I dunno
I figured the Twins and Cuddy have a handshake agreement on that. We offer, he declines. If he doesn’t get any good offers, we’re there with 3/22 type deal.
And somebody gave Werth 7yrs/142 last offseason. Obviously, Cuddy’s not as good but RH power hitters are pretty rare right now. I think he’ll get offers despite a type A tag.
funny you mention Bumgarner
we JUST ROCKED his socks off….
his worst performance of his young career came at the hands of the Twins.

I'm in the minority here, but I'd trade him.
I wouldn’t go for far to say he’s “expendable” but he is a player in a position we have plenty of depth at. We won’t get anything for him if we don’t trade him (plus we could probably resign him next season) and he could be a valuable chip towards building towards the future. I see no way this team can win a World Series (though it won’t stop me from being disappointed if we don’t) so getting anything for Cuddyer could be crucial towards eventually winning one in the future.
In the end, I doubt they’ll be a trade though (as seems obvious from recent Twin’s comments) and I won’t be disappointed if they don’t. While I think it’s best for the long term, it’s no guarantee that the players we get will ever help us. So, whatever decision the FO makes, I’ll be behind (as long as we don’t trade him for two minor league relievers).
The only acceptable trade is Cuddyer for Wilson's Beard
And since Wilson won’t shave, we’ll take him along with his facial hair.
Seriously though, this just reeks of all the New York and Boston writers talking about signing Joe Mauer before his contract was settled. I’ll believe it’s credible when I hear it from the Twins front office.

Wait...
I thought we just said Cuddy wasn’t getting traded…. I highly doubt he will leave the Twins organization ever.
I called Thome's 596th home run! BOOM! :D
This isn't coming from us
This is coming from a beat writer for a big market team. They make a lot of assumptions about “small market” teams and basically assume that they are always willing to cave and give up their best players.
Not to say that we won’t give up Cuddyer, but this isn’t what I would consider a credible source.

true...
I was just surprised because the Twins just said they weren’t going to trade Cuddy so i was a little confused

Publicly saying you're not going to trade someone
Doesn’t mean they won’t listen to offers. A GM would be stupid to completely take a player off the table. If the deal is good enough, Cuddyer will go. But I doubt any team would be willing to offer enough, especially with a few other options reportedly on the market still.
On the other hand, it’s a bit of a risk to keep him. If we offer him arbitration, we’ll be overpaying. If we don’t, there’s a chance he signs with another team and we get nothing in return. But, as mentioned above, I think Cuddyer would at least take a gentlemen’s agreement to decline arbitration so we get the extra draft picks.

Ok
I still can’t see Cuddy ever playing anywhere but with the Twins

Capped
As long as we include capps in the trade and get back a young catcher in the deal I’ll be happy to include Cuddyer.
Doofenschmirtz Evil, INC.
Phineas and Ferb
Which means he's useless to the Giants
But next year, he’ll be golden for the Twins.

no thanks on Posey
you don’t know how he is going to bounce back from his injury
Don't call it a come back! We've been winning for years!
I was kidding
There is no way the Giants would make that deal. There is also no way Bill Smith would turn it down. A young ROY catcher who just happens to be a platoon mate for his current all-star catcher? That would be the fastest YES you ever heard.
When the Twins were in town all the local media were drooling over DJ Cuddles
but I say no thanks to the idea of trading him
Don't call it a come back! We've been winning for years!
Keppinger traded for
Wait for it….
Two minor league relievers
Reason for Poluffe's call up
Smells similar to the Mientkiewicz situation to me. Fan favorite, team leader shipped off in favor of the up and comer.
I really think Cuddyer is gone, because how many times have we heard “so and so is going nowhere” only to see them gone shortly after the statement was made.
Now lets hope we get more use out of whoever we get that we did with Justin Jones.
I would consider the deal, at least.
SF is a pitching deep team, if we could get a starter who misses bats and a solid infield prospect in trade (given the fact we seem to load up on OF prospects ourselves), I’d take a serious look.
