The Mad Capper
Many of you may or may not agree with me, but we should sign capps to a multi-year deal!!! Now before you stop reading and making comments listen to my rant. I will provide FOUR reasons so you can agree. First of all he is very young. He is only 27 years old, and most pitchers dont fully mature till their 30's. Pavano for instance was a nobody till last year when he came to the Twins. Now everybody would like to have him on their starting rotatian(except the phillies). Also pitchers can pitch into their 40's and still very good ex.Mariano Rivera or Jaime Moyer. Second he wouldnt be asking that much, he has had a little bit of a down year and not many teams will give him a chace. And if they do give him a chance they wouldn't pay him that much. Also he is our third best reliever behind Nathan and Perkins. I wouldn't trust anyone else coming out of the bullpen. Ask your self this would you want Alex Burnett coming in when it's a bases loaded jam late in the ball game? I sure as hell wouldn't. Finally his stuff is just filthy, he has a noteworthy slider and a mid 90's fastball. If he could learn just one more pitch hitters would never figure him out.

sorry that was my first post
dont need to read both paragraphs, i didnt know how to post it
It is understandable
As for Matt Capps, forget him. We have a glut of somewhat good relievers in the minors. We also have a manager that is losing his mind simply because we didn’t prepare for the season pretty well.
You also need to do some research. Carl Pavano had a few good seasons with Florida from 2003-05 with 2005 being his best season before 2010 with the Twins. I’ll go now and let the others rip you apart into a million pieces.
I'm a proud fan of the Minnesota Twins and Dallas Cowboys!

Will not be back
I really don’t think that Capps will be back even if offered a multiple year deal. I am sure he knows what Twins fans are saying. He is treated with a chorus of boos when he enters from the pen, why would he want to stay? I do understand your reasoning but I think it is a moot point. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the twins deal him before the deadline just to dump the salary.
You would think a pitcher with "filthy stuff"
Would be able to strike our more than 5.5 batters per 9 innings (With Twins). No way in hell do I want him back.
Right
He does not have filthy stuff. He has average stuff for a reliever. When he’s good, it’s because he’s hitting the corners at the knees. But like most pitchers, command comes and goes. When it goes, he becomes a BP pitcher who only gets guys out if they hit it right at people.
Perkins has filthy stuff. Nathan has above average stuff. Either one could be closer. Capps should go the way of Ron Davis: Become the highest paid mop-up man in baseball.

Matt Capps seems like a decent enough person.
I wish him well in his future endeavors with another team next year.

This is wrong in so many ways
Capps is a veteran, 27 is not very young. By this point, he’s not suddenly going to become a dominant reliever. He was an average closer during his time in Ptitsburgh, Washington, and with us prior to this year, where he’s completely imploded. Most likely scenario is he reverts to being a mediocre reliever…for someone else next year. Guys like Rivera are rarities.
The fact that Capps is (in theory), our third best reliever simply indicates how atrocious our bullpen depth is. Capps is better than Burnett and Mijares, but so is just about EVERY OTHER major league reliever.
Now that he no longer is getting saves, his contract next year will likely be pretty cheap. It’s just not gonna be for the Twins…and for that I am very thankful.
I agree
With regards to the OP’s points:
1. 27 is not very young
2. I don’t know how cheap he will be. We all know clubs overvalue saves and I doubt he will want to get an offer less than 3 million per year.
3.He probably is our third best reliever, but I would rather have Dumatrait or Slama in that situation.
4. His stuff is anything but filthy. His SO/9 rate is closer to the bottom of our bullpen than the top. He also throws far too many fat pitches up in the zone that end up getting crushed.

I'd advise you to do more research
But why should I criticise you when the Twins FO failed to do theirs or we never would be having this discussion. Matt Capps was living a nice quiet life with the Nationals closing games for a team that wasn’t expected to win and then he was brought here there is a lot of pressure to win. Plus Joe Nathan is a pretty tough act to follow. It wasn’t really fair to him or us. I say we package him with a general manager whose initials are B.S. and see what we can get for the pair.

I don't know, but I've been told it's hard to run with the weight of gold,
'the other hand, I've heard it said, it's just as hard with the weight of lead.
