Player of the Game: Beating the Brewers Edition
Happy 4th of July everyone! We've got some afternoon baseball coming up today, so enjoy your day off. Be safe, drink and light stuff on fire responsibly, all that stuff. Here are your nominees to this weekend's player of the game.
Francisco Liriano: 7 innings, 7 strikeouts, 2 walks and 2 runs helped Liriano lead the Twins to a Friday night win over the Brewers.
Joe Mauer: 5-for-11 in the series, with two walks and four runs scored.
Jim Thome: 2-for-7, but both hits were homers and helped him drive in four. Added a pair of walks and scored four times in the series.
Michael Cuddyer: 5-for-11 with a homer, four runs batted in, four runs scored, and a walk.
Danny Valencia: 6-for-13 with a homer, double, six runs batted in and a pair of runs scored.
That's a tough one...

Danny's hits are finally coming
Had to give him some love.
If he can get in around his career average (as of right now) for the entire season, that would be okay, no?
.270/.316/.413
(Last year was .311/.351/.448 so he is at least walking as much as last year and his iso is actually higher than last year. If just his BABIP wouldn’t be 100 points lower than 2010 despite similar batted ball profiles.
Heck, if he had more “luck” we might be sending Valencia to the ASG?)

It's great to see him reaping the benefits
of continuing to hit the ball hard. Hopefully it continues and he can creep that overall line up a bit. I’m not sure he’d have been All-Star worthy, but he certainly wouldn’t be one of the worst-hitting 3B in the AL.

What do they do in the UK for the Fourth? Have a “Good Riddance Yanks” Day?

Some of them call it "The Colonial Insurrection", not "The Revolutionary War"...it's cute.
Most of them know it’s a holiday, so everyone at work has asked me what I’m doing to celebrate it…but they really don’t do anything. I think they find it “quaint”, but only inasmuch as it stops them from boiling over with fury that they were beaten by a bunch of colonialists.
I'm sure Drew Butera celebrates it

had to go valencia as well.
If I remember correctly, several of those hits were big time clutch, were they not?
MPR, Lefsa, Grumpier Old Men and Joe Mauer! Top that.

Really?
I guess DV may deserve it, but I thought this would really be close. And I had to go with the All-Star.
Props to D-Val
Valencia is having a solid year at third, exactly what the team’s been seeking for the last ten years. One thing bugs me about him: When he throws the ball, it looks like he’s leaning back. Why can’t he follow through like a normal person? Bugs me…
atleast
he has a cannon of an arm so he still makes the throws with out following through like most people do
