The Orioles have given up more runs than any other team in baseball this year. In two cracks at this stitched-together pitching staff, the Twins lineup has managed two runs in two games. I... I don't know any more. Tonight:
Guthrie's been throwing through some right shoulder soreness. No doubt Bill Smith has called to recommend rest and rehab and hoping that it all goes away. You could make a reasonably decent case that Guthrie has been the Orioles' best starter this year - he's certainly the workhorse - but unfortunately he pitches for the Orioles. Let's put it this way: Going by game score, Guthrie has thirteen quality starts this year. He's 4-7 in those starts. He's thrown complete games and lost twice.
Slowey's making his second start on his 2011 farewell tour. If he doesn't pitch well tonight, Gardy may punch him. If he does pitch well tonight, Gardy may punch him. Anything can happen! Maybe he'll stop the game and read Wittgenstein on the mound!

Duensing and Blackburn are not viable starting options next year; we know that for a fact at this point. So we only have 3 under contract right now in Liriano/Baker/Pavano (Hendriks and Swarzak are huge question marks in a starting role to start 2012). So;
If you like Slowey you want him to do well and cement a spot for 2012 to help the team.
If you’re one of the sheeple that doesn’t like him and blindly believes the Twins and/or for some crazy reason like Blackburn or Duensing, then you should still want him to do well to up his trade value in the offseason.

We’ve had an entire year of bad starts from most of this rotation this year; let’s see if Slowey can do better over a larger sample than 2 games.
