proof that we sold low on him...
Colorado knew it, and took advantage.
All they got was a low grade relief prospect

Bummer for him
Colorado seemed like a good place for him….
A Cleveland Indian Hipster Pitcher has been done so much before *cough*Charlie Sheen*cough*
Remember, remember the seventh of November.
From the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro
To the rusted belt of Cleveland. Slowey’s keepin’ it real.

So the moral of the story is...
DON’T TRASH YOUR OWN PLAYERS IN PUBLIC!!!!!!!!
There, I said it. This organization really ticks me off due to this type of behavior. It pretty much guaranteed Slowey’s departure for a box of balls. Colorado turns around and trades him for what appears to be a pretty decent relief pitching prospect… Given our needs, this trade would have made a ton of sense for the Twins…

The guy they traded him for has an ERA 6.14

in 8 innings in his debut
and his k/9 was 11, with no walks. The dude has potential. He was pretty decent in the minors too, and he’s 24. Certainly not a lights out guy, but someone with a decent shot at helping the pen.
by diehardtwinsfan on Jan 20, 2012 4:32 PM EST up reply actions
look at his minor league numbers
8.9K/9 in about 90 AAA innings with an ERA of 3.57.
At first glance he looks like a much better prospect than Turpen.
Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?
because he is...
the rockies got more for him than we did.
which means we’re idiots.
But look at it this way,
Cleveland was desperate to land Slowey and they are clearly blind to the rape that Colorado pulled off last year.

I think we're missing the good news
The Indians added Kevin Slowey, on purpose!

That was a bizarrely short tenure.
It will be fun to watch him in the division. Hopefully he doesn’t make the Twins look like fools.

He could
But only for the first 5 innings.

Pitching 6 innings is too mainstream

The Rockies are sending $1.25M to Cleveland in the deal.
The Indians will pay Slowey $1.5M in 2012.
Better deal: Slowey for Daniel Turpen, OR Slowey & $1.25M for Zach Putnam?
IF the Rockies had traded Slowey to the Indians for a potted plant, you would say Rockies won the trade.

What's the deal with Slowey if an organization desperate for starting pitching
Paid $1.25M to trade him for a relief pitcher? Something seems wrong with Slowey in this to me…The Rockies have been reported to be high on Slowey for a long time too….
Remember, remember the seventh of November.
They realized
he’d be a fly ball pitcher in Coors Field.
Recipe for an obscure disaster you’ve probably never heard of.

It was reported at the time of the trade...
that Colorado would probably flip him. That they thought he was being undervalued by the Twins and that they could essentially get more for him than they gave up.
Well, they were right.
Alex Anthopoulos won this trade.
Stranger still, Brian Sabean somehow managed to lose it.

Ryan wouldn't trade him to the Indians
Plus, he needed to trade him before the deadline to offer arbitration. Those factors led to a relatively low valuation on the market. In short, he had to trade him or offer arbitration. He would have rather traded him for $1 than offer him arbitration. Anything he got was sawmill gravy.
Personally, I won’t sweat it. I look forward to beating the crap out of the Indians when he’s on the mound. When all is said and done, the Rockies are the team that won this. They did so because of the way the market works. Good for them. The team that did the worst was the Indians. They actually gave up a valuable arm for a guy who isn’t likely to stay in the rotation past June. That makes me happy.

On the other hand
maybe his climb up the mountain brought him such peace and serenity that he will bring a sense of calm confidence to the mound each time he pitches and will no longer fall apart after 5 innings.

Rumor has it that his epiphany on the mountain changed his life, added 2 MPH to his heater
And his name is now Kevin Fausto.
Steve Goodman lives.
It's all about his wrist, not any "calm"...
if his wrist is healthy, us and the Rockies will both regret this for a long, long time.
If not, he’ll just be a dominant longman or solid 4th starter for a long time.
His wrist will never be the same
He has permanent pins holding his tendons to the bones. This seriously limits his range of motion, affecting his ability to throw an effective breaking ball or get any kind of movement on his fastball. Parker Hageman showed this pretty clearly last year. Nothing he did since that post changes my opinion that Hageman is right. Hageman tweeted in September 2011:
Kevin Slowey threw 97 pitches and got 4 swinging strikes. All on his fastball.
The outs he gets now are concentrated in the first time through the order when hitters haven’t timed his “sneaky fast” fastball. After that, it’s a downward spiral punctuated by loud outs, often caught on the warning track of spacious Target Field.
Because of his relative effectiveness the first time through, we all thought he’d be OK for the bullpen, but he needs his starter routine:
- Two hours reading free papers while enjoying cups of soy lattee at the local coffee shop
- An hour of Bikram yoga at the local studio
- Two hours watching films of himself dominating
- Two hours
debatingarguing with his catcher about the game plan - One hour of long toss in the bullpen
- 30 minutes of warm-up from the mound
- 20 minutes of TM in the clubhouse
Only then is he ready to pitch well for three innings, OK for two innings and horse shit for 1/3 of an inning. Problem is, we don’t have that kind of time in the bullpen with pitchers like him starting.

So you're saying
“Bikram yoga, “soy latte” Slowey wouldn’t have fit in well in the “kneel and pray to Jesus for Tebow’s arm plus a late-inning fortuitous balk call” Colorado clubhouse?
Shame on you, sir. You’re a religious racist. Shame. I say SHAME, hear me!

So what the Rockies traded him for a bullpen prospect
Slowey was done it Minnesota it was very clear he was unhappy and the club was unhappy. I look forward to us facing him wearing Cleveland colors.
first-worst-first?
I kind of want to get a Colorado Rockies Kevin Slowey jersey

Gardy gave his job to Punto.
I thoough Tiffee would have been okay, except they keep trying to make him a 5th hitter. He would have been fine as a 7th or 8th hitter.

This is great news.
We had an ironic hand grenade that was about to explode, so we lobbed it at Colorado, it bounced off them and blew up right next to a division rival.
