Twinkie Town 2012 Top 50...Round 36!
An excellent prospect who the Twins went well over slot to sign captured the Thirty-Fifth spot in this year's poll, Corey Williams. Williams collected 32 of 142 votes (22%), with Matt Bashore second (24), Andrew Albers third (15) and Angel Mata and Pat Dean tied for fourth with 13 votes.
Anderson Hidalgo didn't receive the necessary votres to continue. Added to the next round will be second baseman James Beresford and outfielder Lance Ray. Beresford took another step forward last year, hitting .270 average in 485 at bats for Ft. Myers. Ray hit for only a .253 average in 470 at bats for Beloit, however, he led the Snappers in three categories, 34 doubles, 16 home runs and 74 runs driven in. The Twins have to be intrigued with the power of their 2010 eighth round pick.
This next round will remain open through noon on Monday, January 23rd. On deck are Tyler Grimes, Bart Carter, Javier Pimentel and Michael Gonzalez.

Went with James Beresford
How could you not like his numbers. This Aussie could be a possible lead-off hitter for the Twins in the future, but I would like to see how he progresses at New Britain first.
I'm a proud fan of the Minnesota Twins and Dallas Cowboys!

I would like to see Dallas vs the Giants on Thanksgiving, Make it happen NFL!
Numbers
His numbers were… ok. He had a .270 average, .328 OBP, and only 13 extra base hits with zero home runs. He plays a good second base apparently, and is a solid prospect, but he’s not the Twins leadoff hitter of the future.
Notice I said could
Besides that, a good lead-off hitter gets on base and that is what the Twins need. If the season started today, he would be the lead-off hitter at New Britain.

A .328 OBP
tells me that he doesn’t get on base at a very good clip. Also, Aaron Hicks will probably be the New Britain lead off hitter. Beresford’s ceiling is a 9 hole hitter and average defender at the Major League level.
That's his cieling
.250/.300/.280 is about the best we could hope for. He’d have to be the best defensive shortstop in baseball to make that work. He’s not even the best defensive shortstop in the system. According to BA, that’s Dozier. Goodrum and Polanco have more defensive upside than Beresford.
If the season started today, he would be the lead-off hitter at New Britain.
Ding Ding Ding. That’s the Manny Ramirez at short comment of the week. Hicks, Morales and Hermann will be the 1-2-3 hitters.

Dozier could be in that mix too.
Some thing tells me he’ll be starting in at New Britain.

He'll start at Rochester
He needs to be ready in case Nishi can’t do it. Besides, he earned it.

I'd like to see Dozier get in time at 2B
I’m not a big Casilla fan. I’d be okay if he was the going north to be the starting 2b-man and bat 8th.

If they were going to do that, they would have nontendered Casilla
Lexi get another chance. As does Nishi. If either fails, Carroll goes to 2B and Dozier comes up.

JDW
Rated fastest baseruner in the org by BA. Had a .406 OBP as a 20 year old in the Appy league last year.

He and Ben Revere could be a major force in the Majors.

JD Williams
for the (insert big number) straight time! He was so overlooked in E-Town due to Sano and Rosario, but Williams was terrific and the speed is remarkable.
Lance Ray
Twinkie Town readers should take the time to read the latest issue of Baseball America. A full column is devoted to Lance Ray under tne Twins. A Rodney Dangerfeild that earns respect by what he actually does.
Ray
I really liked Ray when I saw him in Beloit. Great, fluid, left-handed swing. Not a huge guy but very quick hands and tremendous power. Saw him hit an opposite field home run in Beloit, and hit peppered the right centerfield wall 2-3 times for doubles. The times he got out, he hit some seriously hard line drives.
Dakota Watts
He is probably a sheriff from the Old West days.
